First Fitting

November 5th, 2007 @ 10:33 am by Mrs. Peppermint

This past Saturday, I had my first fitting!

I scheduled the first appointment at Claire Pettibone with their seamstress, Linda (she actually has her own shop but will come to Claire’s). I was a bit nervous because I hadn’t seen the dress (let alone tried it on) since February. Those fears dissipated from the second I slipped into the dress. Not only was it so comfortable, but it reminded me why I made the decision in the first place. I love the dress! Also, the whole salon is so friendly and personal. The atmosphere and experience couldn’t have been better. Another positive thing was that I actually lost a little weight (!). They’ll be taking it in a bit over this next week and then I have my next fitting on Saturday. According to the people at the salon, I probably won’t need any more alterations (their dresses usually take no more than 2 or 3 fittings). They’ll be nice enough to hold on to it until after Thanksgiving (why did I schedule the wedding so close?!) so we can make sure there aren’t any more unexpected changes…

Unfortunately, my camera died while we where there, but I do have this one photo from the fitting….

No peeking Mr. Peppermint…

Ta da:

What was your experience like at your fittings? Were you nervous?

I love the bottom, it’s so flowy and comfortable. Very delicate and pretty! When I went for my first fitting, i was nervous too but luckily it fit and i didn’t regret my gown decision.

such a romantic dress peppermint! how exciting. i remember thinking it had been SO long since i bought the dress when i had my first fitting — about 6 or 7 months i think. as it turned out, my dress fit quite well. we didn’t have to touch the skirt (the plus of a short dress) and the top just had to be taken in a bit. it was a very exciting time!

my advice is be SURE you’re happy. don’t feel bad to ask for a number of changes — make sure it’s perfect for you! there is no going back once it’s done, so be sure. also check the dress very carefully for any issues. i dicovered, at my last fitting (no time to do anything about it), that there was a fabric “imperfection” that looked like a long pull/slub of fabric. my salon was nice enough to give me a 10% discount because they couldn’t fix it. i was the only one who noticed on my wedding day, but i knew it would bother me. it was nice to have a little extra money back for the wedding weekend.

My first fitting freaked me out. The dress came in huge. They had given me the “get a size bigger than you think you will need” speech. I was so worried that it would look weird once they got it all taken in. Thankfully the woman doing the fitting was a genius and it turned out great.
