Chalkboard Spray Paint.

I like to play with things. I admit it. I will buy paint, art supplies, and vintage furniture with no real idea how I will use them. I just like the idea of some things, and this is how I came to have a can of chalkboard spray paint.

I desperately want to find some element in the reception to which I could apply this chalkboard spray paint to. There has to be something at the reception upon where the ability to draw would bring great joy to the guests. What, I have no idea, because our wedding is very modern glam (with Asian influences), and I am not sure that the whole chalkboard thing would fit.

But here are some ideas I came up with:

1) A sandwich board at the door welcoming everyone. If I buy a permit (and it isn’t raining) I could even put it outside for those guests who might be confused by the whole wedding in a theater concept.

2) Chalkboard Chargers or discs at the tables with cups of cool colored chalk. Like these coasters that Beau Coup used to carry:

Any other ideas on chalkboard crafts that would be fun at a wedding?

I saw a post on a blog (forget which one!) where they took votives and used the cb spray paint and then wrote words on it such as “love” “trust” etc and had them on the tables at the reception with a candle in them. You could incorporate your theater concept with whatever you write on the votives! good luck!

Just a note - I found the other day that there is also chalkboard CONTACT PAPER! so much easier and less messy than paint. Thought I’d let you know!

what if you spray painted a few sign size pieces of wood and used them to signify the guest book, table numbers, “this way to reception” things like that

There was a MSW feature on a couple who had met in elementary school, so they had all kinds of school stuff in the wedding. I recall guests getting their pictures taken in front of a chalkboard they’d written their names and wishes on.

I also recall the bride was skinnier than her own hairdo, but that’s neither here nor there.

What about something for the kids to do with the chalk? Place mats or something…more environmentally friendly (sort of) then throwing out paper versions…

I love chalkboard spray paint! I actually painted my refridgerator door with this stuff. Of course, I wouldn’t know how to include a fridge into your planning, but I’m just sayin’….

I like the idea of painting a small picnic table with it for the kids.

I am also a fan of this stuff. We discovered it a few years ago and spray painted our pantry door with it for our grocery lists. We are thinking of using it for the Kids table at the reception. So we would find a used Kids table and spray it with the chalkboard paint for them. This should be hours of fun. You can still incorporated in your modern glam/asian influence by drawing a damask (or any type of modern asian them) design along with the message on the board. Or give it an upscale border by glueing beautiful fabric to the edges of the spray painted board/coaster/escort cards/table number .

Gotta be honest–the chalkboard paint is way cool, but I’m not sure it really matches “Modern Asian Glam” very well. Maybe it’s better for a rehearsal dinner or farewell brunch? Or just save it for a different occasion…

I was thinking about using it for the kids’ activity boxes. Each box would be painted and then inside would be chalk and other various things that kids like and can keep them occupied.
