Personalized Starbucks Card

November 8th, 2007 @ 6:27 pm by Mrs. Toucan

While at my neighborhood Starbucks this morning (which was already decorated for Christmas!), I saw the sign for personalized Starbucks gift cards! As one of those people who buys gift cards for themselves so they don’t have to carry around cash, I always get excited when new cards come out. This is better! :)

While Starbucks is advertising them as great holiday gifts, I thought these might make good little gifts for ceremony readers or other wedding helpers.

I went to the website, and created these:

(The Miss Toucan version)

(The Mr. Toucan version)

The personalization fee, which includes processing, printing, and shipping, is $4.

What do you think? Would you give a gift card as part of a thank-you, or is it still too impersonal?

my cousin sent me a sbux gift card for my birthday last year and i love it! i don’t drink coffee, but when i’m craving chai tea or a frappacino, i just whip out my card. :-)

I included gift cards as part of a box of gifts for each of the BMs and they LOVED it. Each gift card was different…tailored specifically to places that each girl would use it at. I like the idea of the personalized gift cards from Starbucks….especially if you know that they do drink Starbucks.

I’m not going to lie, I’d rather get the extra 4 bucks on my Sbux card rather than have a personalized one :( But it is a really fun idea!

That being said, NO i dont think its an impersonal gift, especially if you know that the recipient likes starbucks! Starbucks/gift cards are some of my favorite gifts to get.

i think it’s great, especially if you already know they frequent said place. i always get excited when i get a gift card because well, that’s more money in my pocket that i’d otherwise be spending. lol

hehe…Miss Penguin, you’re funny. I actually do agree with you about the $4 if I was buying one card (I do love my Starbucks - and that buys 2+ coffees!), but if you could buy multiple cards with the same print for the same money… I think it might be pretty sweet (Note: I actually don’t know if they do that, I’d probably call them to find out since they don’t currently have that option).

P.S. I was playing around with it this morning… I like the option to put your favorite drink/regular drink on your card so you don’t even have to order! :)

Oooh is the $4 fee per personalization or per card? If per personalization, I’d say definitely worth it! Is there a minimum per card? If not, that wouldn’t be a bad favor idea.. throw $3 on each for a coffee-themed wedding?

Miss Bubblegum,
Unfortunately there is a minimum of $15 for a personalized card. Starbucks also does corporate cards (2 card options-minimum of 15 cards) and you can customize the card holders. The minimum on those cards are $5. Would be a good favor idea indeed! :)

I’m gonna be the only downer here (heh heh) to remind everyone (including myself, I drink it sometimes) that Starbucks is an irresponsible company that rips off poor farmers, contributes to ecological devastation, employs children, and drives up the prices of coffee so much that the farmer in charge of production can’t even afford a cup of their own coffee. How ridiculous is that?!? And darlings, do we all need another PLASTIC card? If you love coffee as gifts, why not buy fair-trade? Pack it in a personalized hemp bag, or buy gift certificates from the local fair-trade shop, and everyone wins. Except Starbucks.
Together, we can make a difference! (Cliché, yes, but still true!)

I love Starbucks and I loved the gift card my brother gave me, and I actually think of him when I use it. But if you are into personalization, check out my cute monogrammed stickers that can go on almost anything! They are fun and will last 5-7 years on your car or mailbox, unlike the coffee that will be gone after a few visits. See http://www.electrasmonograms.com/ for all our cute stuff! THanks!

I think these make great thank you gifts, hostess gifts, etc.. but I’d rather have the extra $4 on my starbucks card rather than opt for personalization - I’m cheap =P

i read on wsj yesterday about visa’s personalized gift card, which you can actually upload personal image for the card. that’s another option if the bm/gm don’t drink coffee.

but watch out for the transaction fees on the visa gift card (like most gift cards), and it expired after one year. seems like sbux card is the better deal.

I gave a gift card to our ceremony reader- she just got a puppy so a Pet Smart gift card worked well. (Plus around your wedding it is easier to carry around a nice card instead of a box to give them.)

I guess my comment didn’t post. Gift cards are always appreciated and easy to transport (can be an issue when you have to carry around last minute wedding projects…) I gave our ceremony reader a Pet Smart gift card since she’s just gotten a puppy. It wasn’t a huge gift but certainly a good Thank You.
