Shhh… Beauty Secrets!

November 8th, 2007 @ 2:55 pm by Mrs. Jasmine

Every woman has her beauty secrets– those products you go back to again and again because they make you feel beautiful. Because I love the hive so much, I’m sharing a few of mine!

Oil of Olay Quench Body Lotion: This lotion is not noteworthy for its moisturizing, although it is quite good. It’s notable because it creates the most beautiful, lit-from-within golden sheen. Don’t ask me why it has this unadvertised sparkle– and it’s definitely not just my bottle, because I bought another one to be sure. It is perfect for giving your skin lovely golden highlights– so pretty! I plan to use this on my wedding day to give my skin a subtle, sparkly glow.

Udderly Smooth: Yes, the name of the product has the word “udder” in it. Yes, Mr. Jasmine involuntarily shudders when he sees it on my nightstand. But it’s a secret miracle worker. Udderly Smooth will hydrate the driest of skin, especially those rough spots on knees, elbows, and feet. It has a wonderfully creamy consistency, but it’s not oily or greasy like other heavy-duty creams. Plus, you get a very generous tub for $2.99 from Trader Joe’s. I recommend putting your diy skills to work and creating a prettier label to cover up the Udder one. :) This is a fabulous cream to keep your skin soft and supple for the honeymoon!

Mario Badescu Glycolic Foaming Cleanser: This face wash is magic. Every time my skin is feeling dull, oily, or otherwise unpretty, I make it a point to use this cleanser. And the result is always magically clearer, brighter, happier skin. I would not recommend this cleanser for anyone with dry or sensitive skin as it might be a little too harsh. But for those ladies with oily or dull skin, this cleanser, used every few days, is a fantastic go-to product.

Kate in a Jar: This green goop may look like mud, but it will exfoliate your face until it’s as smooth and soft as a baby’s bottom. You just need to apply a small amount all over your face (avoiding the sensitive eye area) and wait sixty seconds. Rinse and your face will be glowy, soft, and radiant. I especially love this product’s uber-hygienic dispensing mechanism– even though I had to call Kate Somerville customer service to figure out how to use it!

Kerastase Bain-Miroir Shine Revealing Shampoo: There are no words for how amazing this shampoo is– it is truly the holy grail of shampoos (for me, at least). Yes, the price is ridiculous. But the result is hair that is so clean, glossy, and shiny, you barely need conditioner. It keeps my color-treated hair in amazing condition. I’ve never used anything like it and if it’s ever discontinued, I will cry.

Frederic Fekkai Technician Color Care Mask: Last weekend, I was a very bad girl and flat ironed my hair three days in a row. The result was rough, super dry ends. Sweet relief came in the form of my beloved Fekkai hair mask. So rich and creamy– sometimes I want to eat it! It doesn’t help that it smells like delicious vanilla. It’s pricey, but you only need a tiny bit. I have long, super thick hair and I use a medium-sized dab once a week. I’ve had my current jar for about ten months and I still have plenty left! If you’re trying to grow out your hair for the wedding and/or keep it in great condition, I highly recommend using the Fekkai mask once a week to keep your hair glossy.

What are your beauty secrets? Shhh… we won’t tell anyone!

omg, I am so ready to go out and purchase all those products, haha. well, definitely the Olay lotion. Wish I could rationalize the cost of the Kerastase shampoo. I also love the Mario Badescu glycolic cleanser. I had a mini sample bottle once and thought it was great, but it ran out. Maybe I should purchase it…

Okay I just have to ask…what’s so tricky about dispensing Kate in a Jar?!? I don’t understand!!! Hehe. And thanks for all these tips! If I ever start spending actual money on products like these, now I know where to go!

Mrs. Bluebell: when you remove the frosted cover, you see that the jar is completely covered on top except for a small hole. You have to press down on the top of the jar and a small amount of product oozes out. It’s great because it keeps you from sticking your fingers into the jar over and over. But I swear, I could not figure out how to get the product out the first time I used it. I kept trying to somehow unscrew the whole thing. I was so embarrassed to call customer service :)

I use Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture SPF 15. My aunt, who graduated at the top of her esthetician class, helped me pick it out and it’s fabulous! I apply after I get out of the shower. The added SPF isn’t so bad either.

I use use udderly smooth too! I keep the big tub in my bathroom and carry around a smaller tube. I agree that it’s fantastic for dry, winter skin.

Try out the Oil of Olay sparkly lotion in photographs before your wedding–sparkles may not photograph as attractively as you’d think.

I love Udderly Smooth. It’s the only stuff I can use that doesn’t make me feel like I came out of a perfume factory or makes my skin break out.

I also swear by my Kerastase products. I use the Age Recharge shampoo as well as the masque. (And ignore the word “Age”, no you don’t have to be old to use it haa haa.) When I purchased them, I was thinking, “Holy Moly for the prices they better work wonder.” I have not used the masque yet but LOVE the shampoo. With the very first use I could immediately see the difference. My hair felt better, and looked better. I’m hooked!

Jay: good call– that didn’t even occur to me. I’ll definitely have a test run first.

I LOVE Kerastase!! I love the masks for repair and the red/pink line for color treated hair!! So amazing — I’m addicted too! Will have to try the Fekkai mask! Thanks!

Wow, thanks for sharing!
It might even be cute to put a bag full of some of those things for your bridesmaids!

I love Fredderic Fekkai products too! I have their shampoo and conditioner! It’s expensive too so I only use it every couple weeks!

I love Olay face cream. It’s the only cream I’ve found that doesn’t leave me super oily in the morning! Love it!

Thanks for your secrets!

Thanks for the product reviews! I heard about Kate Somerville, but wasn’t sure if i should believe the review or not, but since you’ve tried it, it’s worth giving it a shot! Thanks!

I love the Udderly Smooth packaging..wouldn’t change a thing. Glysomed and Palmer’s Olive Butter are good moisturizers. For hair, Shiseido came out with this new line of shampoos and conditioners called Tsubaki which uses camellia oil. I’ve heard rave reviews.

Ocicats: They use the new Shiseido shampoos and conditioners at the salon I go to– they are really good, but so pricey, so I’m resisting!

I second the Olay Quench recommendation. And no, the sparkle is extremely subtle - it just looks like glowing skin in photos (trust me, I wanted to make sure, too!). LOVE it.

I’m telling you, any of the Ojon hair products never cease to amaze me! Especially their deep conditioning treatment. My hair has felt soft and silky for over a week since my last treatment and I flat ironed my hair four times this week!

SJ: I probably made it sound a lot more complicated than it is :) All you have to do is take the cover off and press down on the top of the jar. The exfoliator comes out through a hole in the top. I’m glad there’s another Kate Somerville fan– her products are so great!
