About Mrs. Caramel

Yays And Nays

November 8th, 2007 @ 12:50 pm by Mrs. Caramel

Often brides don’t know what’s going wrong during their weddings.  I was pretty aware of all the details going wrong, however, I put myself in an “I am not going to lift a finger” mood on the Wedding Day, so even when I could have fixed something — I didn’t.  I knew that once I started, I wouldn’t be able to stop!

These were some details I knew were going wrong:

- People were late! Even though I had asked people to come at a certain time, almost everyone involved in helping came 30 minutes -1 hour late. The wedding started exactly 1 hour later than the time given on the invitation.

- Our polaroid booth was not happening. I noticed that as soon as I saw the reception. It turned out that everyone forgot about the box of polaroid gear and it was sitting in someone’s trunk all night. Now I have a brand new polaroid camera with 60 sheets of unused film.

- Our DJ was apparently not aware that he was supposed to sit with the laptop all night. I think there was some miscommunication and he thought he was only supposed to make the dance mix, so the music cutting was very choppy and confusing all night.

- The guests didn’t bring their maps, so they all were wondering how to get to the hotel reception venue.

However, there were some “yays” to make up for it:

- Due to stress, I ended up reaching my target weight 1 day before the wedding, and my dress was even a little bit big on me!

- The musicians were waiting politely to be paid… but I had accidentally told the day coordinator to go ahead and leave! Luckily my awesome bridesmaid took care of it — she immediately grabbed her checkbook and wrote them checks, knowing that it’d all get figured out later.

- My photographer brought 2 people with him because one was an intern… so I had three photographers!

- Because of a treatment I got at Burke Williams a couple days earlier, my skin was in the best condition it had ever been! If you’ve never been, you must try one of their Signature Treatments! (It’s not a facial, so don’t worry. Your entire body gets scrubbed down while you’re in this huge room with showerheads pouring hot water on your body the entire time). Plus if you’re a bride-to-be, they give you a free Bridal Milk Bath!

And finally, I’d like to share a little bit of the honeymoon with you all… here are some photos that I took. Enjoy! :)

Awesome pictures! I too will be one to notice all the little details. But what counts is that you had fun.

I’ll second those signature treatments at Burke Williams. I’m on the East Coast but was a MOH 2 years ago in LA. A couple days before the wedding the bride and I headed to Burke Williams for some relaxation. Even though I’d read the description for the Hunter’s Retreat - somehow I miss the ‘cascading water’ part. I was a little in shock (nothing like that here in small town VA) and thoroughly enjoyed every second of it! I’m just sorry my friend has left LA, so I doubt I’ll ever to get experience it again!

FI just got me a spa day gift certificate for our local Burke Williams for my birthday. I had prepared myself not to expect much b/c it’s a chain, but seeing you gals rave about the treatments at BW makes me that much more excited!! I can’t wait to book my spa day! :)

These photos are beautiful! Are you a photographer?

We left our reception music (aka: the CD’s) in someone’s car, so our ceremony musicans stayed and played for us without prompting. They were so cool about it too.

wow i admire you for being so calm…I would have been LIVID if people arrived an hour late and totally freaking out if my ceremony started an hour late. I guess if I was a guest and on time I’d probably be pretty annoyed as well. How did that not cut into your reception time? Did you have a gap or did you just have a shorter reception?

Hi Mrs. Caramel…

I am planning to go to Italy for my honeymoon as well, but with the euro shooting up…
It seems that it’s out of reach…
I was wondering if you could possibly give me some suggestions or tips from your experience!

Lovely photos by the way… You’re an excellent photographer…
