About Mrs. Flamingo

Here It Is…

November 9th, 2007 @ 10:03 am by Mrs. Flamingo

After my numerous posts about my wedding accessories, I think it’s time to share my dress! My wedding dress shopping was quite easy…. and honestly I couldn’t be happier.

Planning way in advance obviously had its quirks when it came to dress shopping. The first place I visited with my mom was a very small boutique. There were some nice dresses, but nothing that gave me the butterflies everyone was telling me about. I wanted to fall in love with my dress, and that didn’t happen. I didn’t waste more time even though I could of tried on endless amounts of dresses. There’s something magical when you have a wedding dress on… too bad we only wear it one day!

The next place I visited was referred by my sister’s friend. I was a bit skeptical after all the references which ended up being vendorzilla stories. I didn’t lose hope though and called. This time around I went with my cousin who happens to be my MOH. When we arrived, we were greeted with such kindness - this was a good sign. We looked around and the first dress I tried was the one. It fit perfectly, the color was gorgeous… oh and not to mention I had butterflies!

I knew this dress had to be expensive… but the salesperson replied: $650 with taxes included. Did I hear clearly??? Yes yes, $650 taxes included. Wow… To top things off, if I ordered my dress before the end of the month (which was March 2007) I would get $100 off. Now that’s what I’m talking about! So I basically got my dress, veil, garter, shawl, sash, and extra straps for $690 including taxes. Talk about an awesome price… even better when your mom says she is offering it to you as a gift!

Many of you have mentioned that you dislike pick-up dresses in a previous post here on weddingbee. Honestly your wedding dress all about you, and if it’s perfect for you, then that’s all that counts. So I would like to say… I am a proud pick-up dress bride-to-be. :)

Ok here it is: Mr. Flamingo your journey stops here. I mean it!!!

My wedding dress is champagne - the color is stunning and once the lights dim, my dress shimmers. Romantic and not to mention glamorous. You might be wondering what’s up with all the taupe-grayish accessories I’ve posted… well that’s because I will add a sash to my dress - yup a taupe sash.

So what do you think? Honest input please…

Gorgeous! :)
The back part of the dress and train are my favorite! Very glamorous indeed- and a bargain! Great job! :D

I like the detail at the neckline, and the train is stunning. I think it needs to be taken in at the waist to make sure it shows off your shape– right now the fact that it’s ruched, and the lower waistline, is making you look cylindrical, at least in the photo. A sash will make it look a lot more “finished,” and draw the eye up from the eye-catching skirt– I think it’ll be the perfect accessory!

That’s just a great deal! I would have to see the sash on - i’m not a big fan of them –I think that some sashes cut the dress in half and make people look short or chunky, as you look right at their middle, especially if it is not already part of the dress and just an add-on.

But congrats on finding a dress you love!

It’s great! I love the bodice and the color. I think the sash will be a beautiful addition, too. Congrats on finding “the one”!

Beautiful! I love the bodice and the ‘pick-up’. The back is stunning and the dress will be perfect for your glam wedding!

I loved every pick-up dress I tried on - it’s just that they were a little too fancy for my wedding :) There were a lot of dresses I LOVED that were just too over the top for my style - but it didn’t stop me from loving them and not wanting to take them off!

Dresses that are heaving on pick-ups like yours remind me of cupcakes… but I definitely don’t mean that in a bad way, because everyone loves cupcakes! It looks very fun and festive.. reminds me of a flamenco dancer. :)
Fantastic price — my dress was the same way, I was expecting it to be a fortune (another store had quoted me a price well over $1500) and then I found it on super sale at this little store in the middle of nowhere for $650. What a GREAT feeling!!

Oh Julie… I love cupcakes so it all works out ! ;)
Since my dress doesnt have any beading, and with my necklace… its sure to scream Oscars (for my vintage glam wedding) Im really happy about the price, and everytime I go and try on my dress, I fall in love all over again.

I should be due soon… to go back to the bridal shop and try it on again… :D I want to wear it all the time. I would love to go to an Austrian ball afterwards so that I can wear my dress again.

Your dress looks really similar to mine! I totally wasn’t looking for pickups, in fact I’d found a really simple, a-line dress first, then I asked the salesperson to bring me one with pickups “just for fun.” I put it on and my friend and I couldn’t stop smiling and letting out high-pitched “hm”s!

It looks great on you. I’d also like to see it with the sash on.

I agree with tanya2s, and I think the sash will add a little “oomph”. The color is beautiful (what I wanted!), and there’s nothing wrong with a pick-up dress - it reminds me of Beauty from Beauty and the Beast. :)
