I’m sorry I didn’t give you guys more advance notice about the show, but I’m very shy about press of any kind. I know that’s a little ridiculous since I was just on Martha Stewart Radio this morning!
I’m very much an introvert and still get anxious and nervous whenever I have to speak publicly, but I’ll definitely continue to do more press as the opportunities arise… and hopefully there will be many more opportunities!
So here’s how it all went down…
I arrived at the Sirius offices in midtown Manhattan bright and early. A show coordinator came out to greet me, and as we walked to Martha’s recording studio, we passed studios for various Sirius shows including Howard Stern’s (I didn’t get to see him because he has another studio down the hall).
The hosts Kim and Mario were wrapping up their previous segment when I walked in. I was so impressed with their pleasant tone of voice and how naturally everything just seemed to flow off their tongues. It’s something I’d never thought about as a listener, but was very much aware of now that I was doing the speaking.
Kim and Mario made me feel very comfortable and the 20 minute segment flew by - it literally felt like 5 minutes had passed! Unfortunately I can’t post a copy of the segment (understandably so since Sirius is a paid subscription service). But for those of you who missed the broadcast, some of the things we talked about included: how engaged couples are spending the holidays, diy and how the internet has fostered/enabled it, personalization of weddings, nice things to pamper your guests (I mentioned Mrs. Daisy’s white castle burgers), boudoir pictures, destination weddings, day of coordinators, and a lot more!
I also shared this story from a bee: she left framed copies of phone numbers for local cab services on her bars because she had some family members drink and drive at the last family wedding. One of her uncles ended up using them as trays to hand out shots! Classic!
Confession: I prepared for quite some time last night, compiling trends, real life stories and thinking about all the possible things they might ask. I’ve read every single post on weddingbee since day one, and I’ve learned so much from the bees and readers, that I didn’t know where to begin! Just in the past week we’ve talked about: Nonmatching/rewearable bridesmaid dresses (a la Miss Bubblegum), Media in weddings (a la Mrs. Eggplant), iPod weddings (a la Mrs. Corn), and so much more. You guys have all inspired me so much, I felt like I could talk for hours.
Kim and Mario are awesome at what they do and I had a lot of fun. It was a fantastic first experience with live radio so I really thank them for the great opportunity!
