About Mrs. Eggplant

A Sweet Thank You Favor

November 13th, 2007 @ 3:25 pm by Mrs. Eggplant

I just thought I’d share one of my last minute wedding projects that I crammed in during the week of the wedding (two days before our nuptials, yikes!).

With the help of Mr. Eggplant and few of my bridesmaids, we created this quick, cheap, and easy wedding favor smiley1:

When I first told the event manager at our hotel that we were planning on having a candy buffet, she mentioned that in past weddings that she had coordinated, candy buffets were often overlooked and untouched. This was mainly due to the fact that our reception room was shaped in the form of an “L,” so a display that was visible to one side of the room would not be visible to the other. I definitely didn’t want to end up with 120lbs of uneaten jelly beans, so I decided to create a favor for each table setting that would let our guests know we had a mountain of sweet treats for them.

Supplies:
200 Clear Flat Polypropylene Bags - $4.32 from Papermart
200 Ferro Rocher Candies - approximately $40 from Costco
200 Fold-Over White Place Cards - $8 for 50 cards from Paper Source
A Stapler (or two)

Cost: Approximately $0.45 per favor

First, I designed a simple favor tag. Each tag had a thank you message on the front with a candy buffet reminder on the back. They were printed on 3.5″x5″place cards purchased from Paper Source because I did not have time to cut up the paper myself. If you buy cover stock and cut it yourself, this project will be even cheaper.

Each plastic bag was filled with one Ferrero Rocher candy and the folded place cards were attached to the bags with a single staple.

And here’s the back. I think the favors could’ve stood on their own without a candy buffet also.

I didn’t have time to color-coordinate, but I think this project would look cuter with colored candies to match your wedding hues. How cute would it be to have sacks filled with pink gummy hearts for a pink-themed wedding? smiley1 The bonus? Our candy buffet was devoured by all of our guests. No more gummy bears for dinner, yay!

Happy crafting!

This is a great idea! Thanks for the step by step and resources.

I also think these would be cool favors for a Frog Prince themed wedding (a little pet project of mine) since they could represent the golden ball that was lost down the well.

I think those are super cute and a great idea. Everyone loves Rocher! For a minute there, I thought you even made a custom sticker (the oval on the chocolate) with ur names. That’s just crazy me thinking. Sweet idea! You did a fab job.

Can you just use a normal printer to print on these cards? Or do you have to have a special program that you have to use to accommodate them?

Christie, I used a normal printer. I just selected the 3×5 setting (like i was printing out a 3×5 photograph).

How did you print the cards with the text going two different directions? so when you folded the card, the print would be the proper direction.

Jennifer, design programs like photoshop, inDesign, and Illustrator will allow you to rotate the text around. If you don’t have access to those, you could always run the labels through the printer twice.

[...] First spread: Our program included a letter to our guests that opened with, “Dear beloved friends and family, In case you did not know, today, October 20th, 2007 is a national holiday. It’s called ‘The Sweetest Day,’ an occasion that is celebrated every third Saturday in October.” I thought it was so cute that our wedding day happened to fall on The Sweetest Day. We didn’t plan it at all when we booked the date and only found out a few months before the wedding. It was a very sweet surprise that became a mini theme for our candy buffet and favors. [...]

Hi Mrs. Eggplant.

I really love your favors. The ultimate sweet treat. I checked out the website because we will also have edible favors, but ran into a major road block when it came to purchasing the bags. It seems that they are only available for purchase by the 1000s. Please let me know how you were able to purchase in quantities of 100s.

Your input will be greatly appreciated. If you could reply by email that would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello!
I know these posts are from a while ago…but I love these favors and would love to make them for my upcoming wedding. What size bags did you use? From my calculations it would be about width = 3 and height = 2, though I don’t see that option on the paperrmart website. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!
