Looming

While going through my daily blogroll, I happened upon another one of my favorite wedding blogs, Handcrafted: The Cure for the Common Wedding, and found a post on a local shop, Indigo Handloom. What beauties! Even if you don’t buy something, you have to check out the site. There is a plethora of information on the art of hand looms and this amazing artisan craft. The founder, Smita Paul, is a journalist turned fashion designer and her story is just as interesting as the products. The scarves themselves are breathtaking pieces of art. I think I’m definitely going to consider one of these as a gift to the moms once they decide on their dresses for the wedding. I just love every piece… I am tempted to buy one for myself!

The scarves would also make a great alternatives to a bolero for a bride looking for a creative cover-up or even gifts for bridesmaids. Also, the site features apparel ranging from tops to dresses– these would make for very creative and different bridesmaid dress options.

Indigo Handloom will even help you fundraise for a cause by throwing a Good Karma Party. You can do it online or at any place you choose. They also just opened shop in Dumbo, Brooklyn, so you can even have one there! Everyone who attends the party receives a discount off the products and the the proceeds from the discount are donated to a charity of your choice. Another perk? The host of the party gets a larger discount.

I blogged about Indigo Handloom way back in the day, but they have so many cool things going on now! The gal behind it all is super sweet - I met her thru my female entrepreneurial networking group. Her scarves are really beautiful and well made. :)
