Sticky Situation

November 13th, 2007 @ 12:30 pm by Mrs. Bubblegum

Yesterday, armed with the suggestions of many bees and bee-readers (thank you all), I set off to the store with the intent of implementing an array of non-stick ideas.

I should start by saying that, somehow, when I got to the store, I flaked and forgot to buy Pam for Baking.. but I have an excuse!! When I went to the first store, I became disgusted by their lack of cake-mix selection (the nerve) and was forced to go to another store (sometimes life is just so hard). By the time I got there, I was so flustered that it totally slipped my mind!

But get this. Little did I know, but in my infinite wisdom, I had apparently bought Wilton’s Cake Release at some point since my last cake trial (and had hidden it at the bottom of my cake decorating basket). Not willing to take any chances with my sticky situation, I combined the Cake Release with the parchment paper:

cake1

cake2

And let me tell you - AMAZING. I’ve never been so giddy about releasing a cake from a pan, but WOW. It was perfect. I must say it again - thank you all for your suggestions. I am now approaching the cake process with a whole new wave of confidence!

(Stay tuned for the first wave of flavor-tasting!)

Yay — I’m so glad it worked out for you. For future reference, though, parchment paper is not the same thing as wax paper. If the paper hadn’t been completely under your cake, you would have had a bit of a smoky problem!

Ditto to what Kate said; don’t go baking cookies with that wax paper!

Parchment won’t leave a residue.

Haha, I did have a moment when I was like, “hmm, are these the same thing?” but then I let it go. But noted for take 2, thanks!
