The (Free) Gocco That Almost Was

November 13th, 2007 @ 4:46 pm by Mrs. Toucan

Now that I’ve told you about both of my truths, the proposal and “wedding expenses,” it’s time for me to come clean, and tell you what I’ve been lying out about. ;)

I admit I kind of cheated in my little game of 2 truths and a lie. All of the statements were true, except one little tiny part in statement #2. I am indeed a extreme bargain hunter (and I just might be one of those crazy shoppers), but much to my dismay, I didn’t get a Print Gocco for free. Sadness, I know.

I did however, ALMOST get one for free. Kinda. Here’s my sad little story of “The (Free) Gocco That Almost Was”

First, the thing that needs no introduction here on Weddingbee, the gocco printer:

I don’t need this FANTASTIC screen printing machine because I don’t plan on making my own invitations, but I want one. I just can’t justify paying for one.

So, imagine my surprise when I stumbled across this ad on Craigslist - in the FREE section.

What?!
Free
Gocco?!?! I immediately emailed the “seller” that night.
And, I waited.

That night, I couldn’t sleep. I was too excited about the prospect of a FREE gocco (this is a little embarrassing). I dreamed that the “seller” said that the first person to pick up the gocco would get it. I immediately woke up and was ready for the door (this might be more embarrassing).

Bad news.
I hadn’t heard from the “seller” for a day. I thought that maybe he/she didn’t get my email, so I emailed again.

More bad news.
I found out that I wasn’t the first to request the fabulous gocco printer. Some other lucky person in the Boston area got it before me… oh and did I mention, for free?

I was/still am crushed.

Moral of the story: Search the craigslist free section from time to time. You never know what you might find (though most of the time you only find listings for broken TVs and metal scraps ;) ).

There you have it, the truth about Miss Toucan. :)

To help me get over my gocco depression, share some of your best internet finds in the comments section! :)

This is mildly related - I don’t have much luck with contests and such, and in fact I tend to catch on to things late and “miss the boat” every so often - like I would have seen the free gocco post a couple of days after it went up. So when my friend emailed me a post from a wedding blog I’d never heard of, I didn’t think much of it. The post was about renting LCD projectors for your wedding (e.g, to show a slideshow), and the last sentence said that whoever emailed the blog owner first would get a free rental for their wedding weekend.

I got the email about 7 hours after it had been posted, so I figured it was a lost cause, but I went ahead and emailed them. And guess what? I won! It’s a pretty cool prize, since we were planning to do somehow procure a projector, so yay!

I guess that’s the story of how the Wedding Slideshow Came to Be(e)!

If it makes you feel any better, at least you didn’t pay $100+ for a Gocco that never showed!! I’ve been waiting for my Ebay Gocco from Japan for 6+ weeks, when the shipping service was supposed to take 7-10 days. It’s supposed to be insured, but the seller hasn’t responded to my queries…. Luckily, I obeyed the cardinal rule of Ebay and paid with a credit card — if all else fails, there’s always the card company to fall back on. BUT, that doesn’t change the fact that I still have NO GOCCO! =(

I got a free super NES from Craigslist with a bunch of games haha. I saw the post right away and emailed the “seller”. I was the first one, and I drove right over to their place to get it (with a friend for safety lol). While I was driving there (only a 15 min drive), the seller told me that there were TWENTY emails in the time from when I left to pick it up!!! Everyone loves a freebie!

joy- what a small world! I was wondering if I’d find the person who actually got the gocco on here…

Miss Tulip, hope you get your package soon! :(
