E-Pic Session

November 14th, 2007 @ 1:52 pm by Mrs. Peony

Yesterday Mr Peony and I had our engagement photo session at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I got there a bit early and while waiting on the steps, I noticed a big commotion on the other side of the front stairway - it turns out that they were filming an episode of Gossip Girl. Whenever the director yelled “cut!” and the actors were able to take a break, a gaggle of giggling, screaming fans (mostly teenagers…. why weren’t they at school?) would rush over to take pictures with the stars. E-Pic Session : wedding new york photography Silly silly I think I’ll try to catch an episode to see what the big fuss is all about.

Based on the comments from my e-pic location post, I knew that there was a chance that we’d get kicked out. I had called twice (making sure I spoke with different people) beforehand to double-check their photography policy. Both people told me that we should be fine just as long as we don’t use flash. However, the second person said that it’s really up to the security guard(s) in charge of the galleries where we’d be shooting.

I admit that I was a bit nervous. Aside from school portraits from way back in the day, I had never posed for a professional photographer before. However, our photographer Danny was awesome. He made sure we were relaxed and kept us laughing. I never knew how much movement was involved in being a photographer - there were times when Danny was literally crawling on the ground in order to try to get the best angle.

We almost got kicked out of the Temple of Dendur and after the first couple of verbal warnings guard continued to watch us like a hawk. We continued on to the Astor Court, some photography galleries, and 20th Century Art. By this time the sun was just starting to set, which Danny told us is his favorite time of day to shoot. So we headed outside to Central Park and continued shooting with the amazing setting sun in the backdrop.

I think the funniest part of the day was when some foreign tourists started taking our pictures too. I think they thought we were celebrities since we had a photographer following us around. E-Pic Session : wedding new york photography Winky02 winky02 There was another moment when we were on the sidewalks of Fifth Ave, and a driver in a car that was passing by yelled out, “That will make a great photo!”

Unfortunately, we have to wait another week or so for the proofs, then another for the final package. Danny showed us a couple of shots on the LCD of his camera and they were amazing. Both Mr Peony and I are already going crazy waiting to see the pictures!

On a sadder note, I think I’m starting to get tension headaches (or even migraines?) from all the stress I’ve been under lately… I could hardly function this morning. Can anyone give me any tips or advice?

I started taking a yoga class (mild workout version) and it has been amazingly helpful in relieving stress and tension. The last five minutes of the class are soley for breathing and laying there in the dimly lit room. I feel like a new woman when I leave- strectched, relaxed and revitalized!

oooo~ I can’t wait to see the pics! I’m sure they will be gorgeous!

sorry to hear about your headaches Miss Peony~ have you ever thought about trying acupuncture? I was deathly afraid of needles before my FMIL treated me, and if done correctly, it’s not supposed to hurt.

I know what you mean aobu the agility of the photog. Ours had us up on this ledge over a drop and was utilizing all sorts of balance. Glad you had a good time taking the e-pics. I too was nervous but it turned out to be a lot more fun. What’s not fun is waiting. Hopefully we’ll have ours next week.

oohh, can’t wait to see the pictures. i’ve check out danny weiss’s website and blog before and was really impressed. i take it he’s your wedding photographer too? i love the idea of pictures at thet MET and in the park at sunset! i hope you’re thrilled.

as for the headaches — i’m get migraines frequently. there are a few things that help me —

1) drink LOTS of water. i keep a nalgene at my desk and make sure to fill it up and finish it at least twice a day.

2) eat regularly — if you find yourself getting headaches because you wait to long to eat keep snacks around — carrot sticks, granola bars — something so don’t wait too long.

3) stretch or relax somehow — yoga is great. basically anything that will force you to take slow deep breaths.

hope this helps! take control of the stress now before the wedding. you don’t want to feel this way for the next 5 months, let alone on your wedding day!

Massage and chiropractic was the best thing I did for all my school/work/wedding planning stress. My muscles would get tight which would put my neck out, then my neck being out would give me headaches, and these headaches made my muscles tighten and so on.

The thing that works best for me is a once a month visit to a massage therapist. They do this thing where they literally cradle your head in their hands and there fingers release the tension. I’m not explaining it quite right but it feels miraculous. The bonus is finding a massage therapy school as the students usually have mucho discounted prices :).

Yoga! Do some yoga and it should release a LOT of the tension in your body - therefore relieving neck/head tension as well. I highly recommend it for those with reoccurring stress headaches.

I LOVE gossip girls!!! Too bad I wasn’t there too otherwise I would have been one of the gaggling girls!!! LOL.

I’m excited that they let you take pics in the Met…I’m going to suggest that to our photographer too, esp since our engagement pics will be in the winter.

Aww I can’t wait to see you pics! That comment the driver made is so cute. :)

I can’t believe you were there when they were filming Gossip Girls!! (I thought they might’ve stopped production? I guess not..) I would have been SO excited. Heck, I probably would’ve made them my background for my e-pics hahaha.

Knock on wood, I’ve only had a few bouts with migraines. I did, and sometimes still do, get very bad tension headaches, and I’ve found that sometimes I can ward them off when I start feeling a *little bit* headachy by using Origins’ “Peace of Mind Sensory Therapy.” It’s a little bottle of lotion-y stuff that you rub on your temples, and I also put some on the back of my neck. And take a nice whiff of it from your fingers before you wash up. It’s a peppermint-y smell, and it helps my head feel a bit clearer, and the slight peppermint tingle it gives your skin helps too. Not effective on a full-on tension headache or migraine, but it has helped the little ones from getting bigger.

Designate one day a week where you don’t do ANYthing having to do with wedding planning. This can be very hard to do but the fact of the matter is, it will all be there the next day after your “wedding-free” day is over.

Sorry to hear about your headaches! I’ve had a lot of headaches in the past month of planning, and I have to ditto guynhie. Try not to even THINK about the wedding for a whole day. Do something active and fun, but DO NOT look at anything wedding related. I haven’t opened a Brides magazine in a week and haven’t had a headache since. I hope you feel better.

I used to get migraines but I cut way back on high-preservative packaged foods (cans of soup, dinners-in-a-box, etc) and haven’t had one since!
Celestial Seasonings tension tamer tea lives up to its name, too :)

I started running, and I have to say it really helped with the wedding planning stress. Also, it helped counteract the stress eating as the wedding got even closer! I also made my husband to be take me out of the house to get away from wedding planning, I wasn’t allowed to talk anything wedding for a whole day, do that as much as you need to.

i can’t wait to see your photos!

for migraines, i found yoga works really well and so does getting a massage, and asking them to focus on your head. :-p i know it sounds weird but it works for me and some studies indicate that migraines are a result of decreased blood flow to the scalp.

if you feel one coming on, try not to get too stressed out about it, since all that tension will make it worse!

for the migraine - excedrin, and something thta will make you sleep for 4 hours. it will really help. lay down in a quiet & dark room.. that’s all that helps for me.
