A Different Processional

November 15th, 2007 @ 3:30 pm by Mrs. Onion

One of my favorite things from our wedding day was processing from the church up the Church Street Marketplace to our reception with all of our guests. We stopped traffic and as we approached the restaurant we could already hear our guitarist, Brendan Burns, playing “My Romance.” It set the mood perfectly!

As always, click to enlarge - credit and thanks to our photographer, Daria Bishop.

If you have the chance to walk with your guests I’d highly recommend it! Strangers were smiling and a number of people said “Congratulations!,” as we walked by. A few kids squealed “A bride, a bride!” It was fantastic to walk hand in hand with my new husband with all our friends and family right behind us There was a great sense of the energy on the marketplace and what a beautiful day it was! We were so lucky — it was sunny and in the low 70’s that day. The next morning it was raining and about 15-20 degrees colder!

How are you getting from your ceremony to your reception? Do you have anything special planned?

Tee hee…we walked about 20 yards to the tent ;)

All kidding aside, I LOVE this idea if you are close enough to do it! Of course I am a total ham so it really fits my style!

You look so lovely…I am so honored to have shared our date :)

This is exactly what we are going for! We will be walking about 3 city blocks from ceremony to reception site with a bagpiper leading us. There will be a festival going on right on our walking path, so I imagine we’ll have a bunch of on lookers and I’m looking forward to it!

jenniferB — i forgot to mention that there was a street festival going on for us too. there was a juggler and we ran down to check him out with my mom and our flower girl (with our photographer and videographer) so there will be more pictures of that later!

Mrs. Onion, we also walked b/t our venues. It was about 5 city blocks. We did not find out until the day before that there was a downtown bicycle festival going on, which made for some really cute photos.

We are getitng married at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas and will get to walk with our whole wedding (wedding party and guests) from the chapel to our reception at Four Seasons. The walk will take us all through the hotel lobby and the casino floor. I think it is going to be a lot of fun! I’m considering having some of the kids lead the way with flags. Is that too much?

This is such a cool idea. That’s definitely a perk to having two different locations.

Aww, so cute!
We will be taking an elevator down 32 floors to get from our ceremony to the reception, ha. Somehow, I don’t think we’ll be able to fit with all our guests. ;)

I would LOVE to walk from the ceremony site to the reception site with all my guests. What a cute idea, Mrs. Onion!

The sites are within one mile of each other… unfortunately our ceremony ends at 3:30 and our reception won’t start til 5pm! So it won’t work for us. Shame! :(

shellypants — i planned accordingly so this would work out perfectly. i still can’t believe the timing was so perfect. our ceremony started at 4 pm, was about 30 mintes and then we had an improptu receiving line (people just started hugging me and Mr. Onion on the steps of the church).

i asked everyone (in the program) to stick around outside the church for a group photo. between the hugging and the photo, we were right on time for our cocktail hour at 5:10 or so! pfew.

so perfect. we are also planning on doing this, since our reception is only 2 blocks from our church in the very touristy historic part of philly. we are also possible walking the 2 blocks from the main guest hotel, to the church as well as from the church to the reception. we are inviting 150 people so that is going to be a bit of coordination. did you tell your guests ahead of time to wear comfy shoes?

Yay! That’s so cool! My wedding will be in a big rock park, and the reception is at the Visitor’s Center, just up the hill. I’ve been fantasizing about walking up with everyone, but I’ve been worried about picture logistics (i.e. when the portraits happen), but with your recommendation, I’m even more inspired than ever to make this happen!

How special for you two to begin your married “walk” together!! :)
