Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!

First Dance, Best Dance (Music Part 1)

I’d have to say that above all, my favorite part of the reception was the first dance. Immediately after being announced as the new Mr. and Mrs. Kiwi, we had our song cued up and ready to go. Since we had chosen the soundtrack version of “Kiss the Girl”, the song started with “Percussion, winds, words…” spoken by Samuel Wright as Sebastian the crab.

Since we had quite a few Disney fans and some definite pop culture fans, as we glided around the room we could see the recognition appearing on faces throughout the room as they listened to the song. The children attending were ecstatic that we had that song playing, and the few people who didn’t know it was coming looked delighted. To play up to the crowd, every time the words “Kiss the Girl” were sung, Mr. Kiwi gave me a kiss. He’s such a ham!

After the first dance, so many people came up to us about the choice of song, commending us on choosing something so perfectly “us”. If there was anything we could be proud of, it was that- this wedding was a sum of all of our parts - the Disney loving goofballs who are deeply in love. Yes, the line about “She don’t got a lot to say” (bad grammar, Sebastian!!!!) couldn’t be farther from the truth, but when Mr. Kiwi snorted at that part in the song, it got some laughs.

For a late birthday gift, I received this from my aunt- now we’ll have something to always remind us of our Disney dance.

Oh, I’m so glad it worked out for you!

We did a violin/guitar version of the Sesame Street theme for our recessional. It was so cute to hear all the little kids singing along.

My FI and I are considering a non-traditional song, this story gives me the confidence to say let’s go for it. After following along with all your decision making it is so fun to hear about how all your details became a reality!
