About Mrs. Emerald

Merci Beaucoup

November 16th, 2007 @ 3:51 pm by Mrs. Emerald

You can tell that a number of us Bees just got hitched due to the number of Thank You card-related posts! And here’s my contribution to the topic. winky044

While many brides lust over letterpressed stationary (I would have considered it had it been in the budget!), I personally have a love affair with offset printing, and more specifically, Overnight Prints. I can wax poetic about their thick paper stock, the brilliant colors, the glossy UV coating… I even love the way they smell (yea, I’m strange). I had OP print my invitation, rsvp card, website card, menu cards, and now my Thank You postcards (so it’s all cohesive of course!!).

I kept it simple and used one of my favorite black & white images of us flashing our newly graced ring fingers (despite the fact that I am slightly out of focus in the pic). Initially, I played around with adding some text, but then decided that I preferred it without text. I chose to print 5.5″ x 8.5″ postcards versus the 4″ x 6″ postcards, even though that meant paying regular $0.41 postage instead of the discounted postcard rate.

Here is the front (ignore the date stamp, that’s from my digicam, not the actual postcard):

And the back:

I designed the back in Adobe Illustrator, and I used our lovely monogram. I also included lines because I absolutely cannot write in a straight line to save my life!! My handwriting is forever crooked… so lines were a must, and I have to say they made the writing process a whole lot easier!

I ordered 250 cards for a total of $72 (I Googled a discount code!), even though I only needed about 100. I could have ordered 100, but then I wouldn’t have had enough if I made mistakes (which I made tons!) And now I am left with all these:

Anyone have any interesting ideas of what I can do with my 100+ leftovers? And my 100+ invitations, rsvp cards, website cards, and 50+ menu cards sitting in my basement??

You could use a few to make mini wedding scrapbooks for the attendants. The postcards can be used as regular postcards for a while. But then you’re still left with all the other paper goods…

this won’t help you get rid of a lot of them this way, but I think a great idea is to frame all your paper products in one of those shadow box frames and you can hang it up on your wall.

Why not make a collage to hang on your wall and maybe one for your parents too. You can include the invitation the post cards (Use thes as partial fillins for space and as a complete picture) You can even use the backside of your postcards to write little notes strategically throught the collage since they have your monogram.

When you go pro in the wedding business, they will come in handy as samples to show your clients. ;-)

You could send out wedding announcements to those you couldn’t invite to the wedding itself.

You can make a room divider out of it! =)

What about using the TYs as inserts for those on your Christmas card list who didn’t make the wedding?

Also, you could frame a photo and an invitation side by side.

I love all your stationery! The red shade you used is amazing! Did you get that color from OP, or was it part of the design you created?

I’ve been thinking about using OP for my wedding printing as well. How much do you think that you spent overall using them? Was it by far more affordable than anywhere else that you found?

Can you possibly share with us the coupon code that you found? The cards are wonderful! I’d keep them for the future for holiday cards or possibly keep them to insert them along with baby shower invites… for your future baby~!

Littlefoot - the red shade and the overall design of my invitations were done by a graphic designer. I love the color too!

Sarah - hrmm, i would say that I spent about $400 w/OvernightPrints, on invitations, rsvp cards, website cards, menu cards, and thank you cards. However, I always order 250 of every item, even though I did not NEED 250. Their lesser quantity was 100, and that was too little.

Mrs.P - I think I tried a few promo codes that I found on this site: http://www.retailmenot.com/view/overnightprints.com
It took a few tries to find one that worked!! Good luck!

What is offset printing? I am looking to use overnight print for my thank you post cards also, but didn’t know what offset printing was or if it was worth the extra money? THANKS!
