Merci Hostess

November 16th, 2007 @ 3:29 pm by Mrs. Petunia

I don’t think it says so necessarily anywhere that you have to get your bridal shower hostess anything, but honestly, I can’t imagine not doing so for the women hosting mine: they’ve been working so hard for my upcoming one in January, and frankly, I know they have spent way too much money on it, too.

I blogged before of my idea for a gift for them: I’d come across this Archipelago Botanicals candle (I now know also sold at Nordstrom). I love how it comes with a removable brooch and how the box is lined with velvet and can be used later to store things, if you’d like:

But then now I’ve also seen this, and I’m torn — a tea for two set with luncheon plates and teacups in a drawer gift box and with a French motif, like my whole shower!: “Les Femmes,” from Rosanna, and for only $40!

Which of these two gifts would you rather receive? Perhaps getting a candle is a bit too common?

If you yourself are looking for a hostess gift, you may want to take a look at Rosanna. They have some beautiful gift sets, with prices ranging from as little as $25 for a teacup & teapot set to $70 for a pair of candlesticks:

Or perhaps you have a special flower girl in mind? How about these tea sets, for $50 or $35, respectively?

Oh gosh… I like both. I think it depends on the style/taste of your hostesses. The candle is so pretty (especially the brooch), but the smell may not agree with everyone. The tea set is lovely, but the design might not agree with everyone. You know them best, so I have no doubt that you will be able to choose the best one, and I think either gift is really nice.

…..Maybe I like the candle better with the reusable box.

I would definitely go with the Les Femmes plates and teacups– they are so charming!!! And the hostess will think of you everytime she uses them. I think they are more of a practical and unique gift than the candle, which is also lovely.

Great finds, Miss Petunia! I also second the tea for two set– but I’m biased, I love tea!

I don’t drink tea, so I would never use the set. But if you think it’s something your hostess would enjoy, then I think it’s very cute.

Tea set, tea set! Even if it won’t get used, what a lovely display set. And regardless of how fancy a candle is… it’s still a candle, you know? It’ll get used and that’s it. But those pretty tea sets can be reused forever, and as I already said, be put on display. :)

I would rather have the candle. I am biased though because I love Archipelago products. I’m a tea drinker but I would never use the tea set.

I think I’d squeal more upon seeing the tea set, but I’d be more likely to use the candle in the long run. So I guess it depends if you want a “wow factor” gift or a genuinely useful one. I’d probably end up re-gifting the tea set, quite frankly, as much as I’d love it.

I think both are nice gifts but I would prefer the candle. If the person is a tea drinker, they probably already have tea cups and these might not match ?? That’s my take atleast. :)

I love ALL your gift ideas, even more so than I have ever liked the “gift idea” spreads in bridal magazines. Maybe you should be a personal bridal shopper!

my vote’s for the tea cups, but base it on the personality of your hostess. i have a candle i received as a bm gift that went unlit and i just finally got rid of it after 3 years. i’m just not that into candles [unless they're on cakes].

i would find a reason to use the tea cup, even if it’s only for orange juice. they’re adorable.

Hello
I was given those tea for two cups 2 years ago for my Birthday by my best friend. I was really happy cause they are so pretty. But except for using them that one time where I got them. They are in the back of the cupboard. So I would say, the candle or the pretty candle holders. Cause the thing is, no one really has the storage for them funny shaped plates, and never use the cups for having a cup of tea on your own, they are so small…

However pretty they are
