My Dream Wedding

November 16th, 2007 @ 4:57 pm by Mrs. Bubblegum

Last night, I had my third dream about the wedding. I didn’t really think that it was on the surface of my subconscious, but as it turns out, it is!!

Dream #1: It was my wedding day. I had no dress. Not a whole lot else to this one, but like, hmm.. maybe I should start dress shopping??

Dream #2: It was about 5 months before the wedding, and guess what - I was 6 months pregnant! For some reason, I was in a department store, and my aunt was asking me what my plan was for the baby. And my response? “Oh, well, once I have it, I’ll just work out like crazy for the next 2 months so that I can lose weight before the wedding.” Which tells you exactly where my priorities lie.

Dream #3: In part one of the dream, I was getting ready for a backyard wedding ceremony with no reception. I made a last minute decision to use the side yard instead of the backyard because… I don’t know, it was prettier or something.

In part two of the dream, I realized that the wedding was over, and my memory of it had been totally wiped - but for some reason, I was okay with that, and I really just wanted to see the pictures to make sure that a) I looked pretty and b) everyone had a good time. I tracked down one of my coworkers, looked through his pictures, and then asked him - what did everyone think of doing it in the side yard instead of the back? Annnnd apparently, I made a good decision. :)

Anyone else having any wedding-induced dreams??

Mylanta, I have them all the time! Its actually really funny that you post this today because last night I had my first non-crazy-stressful wedding dream. I’ve had the no dress, getting there and the venue is gone, no flowers, no one shows up etc etc dreams. Last nights was in a very bizarre location on a boat somewhere. But everyone was there and everyone was happy and everything was peachy. Except that I spent the majority of the reception looking for a bathroom. But I was happy while I was looking, not freaking out. I woke up very excited! and I had to go to the bathroom…

Haha, those are funny. I don’t often remember my dreams, but every few weeks I’ll have a wedding related “nightmare”. Always something different, always something that I forgot to do. Last night I had one. It was two days before the wedding and I realized I had forgotten to send out invitations to anyone. My biggest frustration with this was apparently not that I would have no guests, but that I had to give up the vision of what my beautiful invitations would look like because they couldn’t get designed and printed in time. It’s hilarious because in real life, I actually have pretty good perspective about all the design elements and I realize that in the end, none of it really matters. It’s just pretty stuff and I like it, but I would be fine without it if something went wrong. But in my dreams, I always get really fixated on those details, like the world would come to an end if I didn’t find the perfect necklace to match my dress.

There was about a month or so when I wasn’t doing much for wedding planning, and I kept having the dream that it was my wedding day and I had forgotten to invite anyone! The whole dream was me and my fiance scrambling around to try to call people, locate an officiant, etc. I kept saying to myself in the dream, “But I’m so organized! How did I let this happen?”

When I started doing more work on the wedding, the dreams stopped.

i had one and i’m not even engaged but i think it was because i was helping to plan my best friend’s wedding. it was a pretty ceremony and i remember telling the bf [who was the dh in the dream] that i didn’t like my bouquet but i loved that there were green parrot tulips in there as we were walking back down the aisle. then went on the reception that was outside with covered picnic tables [i remember helping to set one up] and then i became upset because my older sister wanted to sit and talk to people instead of taking family pictures. overall totally the opposite of what i want in real life but i remember being very happy in the dream.

i told the bf about this dream and how strange my reaction to my bouquet was, he said it was a sign that i shouldn’t worry about something i’d be throwing away anyway and i instantly got defensive and said that i wasn’t going to throw away the bouquet. he started laughing and decided that i needed a break from the planning!

I keep having one when I show up to the ceremony location and my photographer tells me it is too late to do the ceremony, that all the natural lighting is gone and we’ll have to reshedule the wedding. In the dream, I am always very calm about that and tell all the guests we’ll meet back at the ceremony site tomorrow! Also, I am always wearing my wedding dress, but instead of silk tafetta it is denim. HMMMM.

I keep dreaming that I have a hideous dress. And it’s the day of the wedding and the dress is soooo ugly and there’s nothing I can do about it at all.

I also dream that I fall into the harbour while having my pictures taken (I’m getting married in Halifax, NS). This could potentially happen because Lani + heels + boardwalk = Disaster waiting to happen. I figure if I go in, my fiance is coming with me. ;)

It took my fiance and I almost a year to set our wedding date - first Oct, then January, then May, we’ve finally set our date 100% for a two year engagement! I’d have these dreams that my mom got fed up waiting for us to set a date and arranged everything. In one dream my wedding was in a store in a shopping mall. In another, she set up the whole wedding and it wasn’t until after the ceremony that I realized she hadn’t invited any of FH’s family! I’d wake up from my dreams FURIOUS with my mother! Poor ma…

I alway have the dream that my mother brings in my dress and not only is it not the dress I ordered, but it’s brown and blue (no clue why, neither of those are my wedding colors) and made of stretch polyester. It’s the most hideous dress I’ve ever seen and all I can think of is that I have to find a store that sells white dresses NOW!
Then, during the wedding, my ex-best friend shows up (apparently we’re still friend in the dream) wearing a white, princess like, ballroom wedding dress and everyone loves it.
I don’t even want to analyze what this all means.

Yes! It happened at a time when I was all “wedding-ed out” and trying not to think about it. My parents came to visit and of course started bringing up wedding planning. That night I dreamed that all these people from my high school came to the wedding even though I didn’t invite them (and haven’t seen them for 10 years). My dress was basically a bikini top with a yellow and green skirt attached, which I crocheted myself, along with a black robe I also crocheted. It was hideous. I forgot favors for my guests, so I tried to get my cousin to buy bulk candy at Costco, and the minute I was supposed to walk down the aisle construction workers came in and tore up the floor of the church! My guests got in fistfights with them. I have have really weird dreams, so this isn’t all that surprising.

Here’s to hoping none of this comes true!

I’m starting to have a bunch. My most recent one was all about a bride’s worst nightmare. Somewhere in the middle, I realized that I had to be dreaming, so I started “making note” of all of things “not to do.” In fact, I started screaming, “It’s NOT supposed to be like this!!”, and started listing off all the things, and my sister was trying to soothe me and calm me down. And I was screaming back, “It’s not real! Let me get mad!”

Let’s see:
-I was in my home church when the wedding is going to be outside. Not a big deal, but then…
-My dad had to use the bathroom right when the music cued for us to walk down. He LEFT me, and I walked down by myself, but had to wait for him to come back so he could give me away and the organist let the song hang awkwardly on the last note.
-The music was the traditional Wedding March, and I was livid, because apparently, in the dream, I hate that song! [It was supposed to be Pachabel's Canon or something.]
-Then my pastor and his wife were doing a skit with their daughter to celebrate our wedding (which was weird but fine), and there was a motion where they all hit their head repetively and it caused my pastor to seize! And in the dream, I was having visions of them needing to call an ambulance, but all the while, wondering who was going to marry us or would we have to postpone a day?!

It was at that point, I woke up and was wondering, “WHAT was that?!”

I have definitely had my share of wedding nightmares. The most memorable was the dream in which I decided that, on the day of the wedding, I didn’t like my dress anymore.

We went to a boutique to find a new dress, but the only style they had left was identical to the dress I already had. They did, however, stock it in different colors. I chose hunter green (I have no idea why). Everything was fine until minutes before the ceremony when I actually put on the dress. The entire bodice was sheer, and I didn’t have a bra. I tried to wear my white tank top underneath it, but it looked ridiculous, as the dress was strapless. I’m not sure how that all played out, but I remember that at the reception, everyone was dressed in a drab hunter green or navy blue, so I didn’t stand out at all and no one even knew (or cared) that I was the bride!!

Talk about being subconsciously nervous about the wedding! Sheesh! For the record, everything worked out wonderfully at my wedding, and I stood out just fine in my (beautiful) white dress!

Leslie says:

SO WEIRD! I had almost the same dream the other night. I dreamt we had our ceremony in our house and decided to skip our own reception. But my memory was wiped of the whole ceremony also. Then I went to look at my pics and saw I didn’t wear any make up because I just forgot to put it on…

Then I had one last night that it was my wedding day and i didnt book a dj, transportation, or send invites. I shouldn’t look at wedding sites before bed!

Kate says:

I detest wedding dreams - they stress me out!

I always have the same one where I have a lah-ti-dah attitude about wedding planning and figure everything will just “fall together” and I’m always wrong and it’s always awful and I always cry.

In one of them my mother was in such a rush she forgot to zip my dress and it slowly fell off of me as I was walking down the aisle. Of course, we went on with the whole ceremony!
