Buying Dresses In Bulk

November 17th, 2007 @ 3:15 pm by Mrs. Bubblegum

Okay, so, I’m not sure if two dresses qualifies as “bulk,” but let me tell you - I have never before bought two dresses for the same event, so let me explain…

I am going to a wedding two weeks from now, and I have (had, really) nothing to wear! As it turns out, all the weddings I’ve been to previously have been in the summer, and alas, all I had was summer dresses… which brings me to a confession. My recent post on non-traditional wedding dresses was a fraud!!! I used it as an excuse to lust over expensive dresses that I would LOVE to wear to this upcoming wedding. I am very sorry to anyone I deceived. :)

In reality, I am just not willing to spend that much unless it’s a dress to wear to my wedding, so I set out to Macy’s to find something more in my price range - and not only did I find something, but I found many things. As it turns out, Macy’s is currently having a dress sale, and in particular, almost all Madison Leigh dresses were marked down to $59.99 (and there are a ton.. I definitely recommend checking it out for bm dresses). I finally narrowed it down to three, mulled a bit, picked one, and brought it up to the register. When she rung it up.. $35.99!!!!!!!!

I couldn’t believe it. It was originally $99.99… HOW am I this lucky? So what else could I do but BUY ANOTHER DRESS??!

Annnd now I have two dresses, one event. So opinions are needed.

So what'll it be?

Cute dresses, but I think dress #1 is more flattering than dress #2, particularly around the mid-section/hips. It could just be the flash of the camera, but I guess that is also something to consider since you will probably be in pictures that evening.
I especially love pairing the black dress with those hot red shoes!

I think the empire waistline on dress #2 is more flattering on you. The low square neckline shows off your nice collar bones as opposed to the beatau neck on dress #1.

#1 is definitely more flattering. the satin shine tends to add bulk to certain areas.

They’re very cute dresses, but I think your body would look fab in a dress that flared out more from the hip. Think Audrey Hepburn’s dress in Sabrina (same boat neck collar as dress # 1, but with an a-line knee length skirt). Satin can be very unforgiving (in retail we say”satin = satan”),” and works best when it’s flowing away from the body, because when it hugs, it creates unflattering puckers and lines, and as soon as you sit down, the creases will get you!

With that said, your red shoes are adorable, black looks AWESOME on you (instead of washing you out/making you look goth), and props on being such a savvy sale shopper!

i like the color of dress #2… but the trendy but classic cut of #1 & of course the red shoes wins out.

I like #1 the best (and the red shoes!)

It’s so stinkin’ hard to find a good a-line these days.

I just don’t think the fabric is flattering. Keep looking!

I love the red shoes, and I think #2 looks better on you. #1 doesn’t seem to fit you very well–it looks baggy in some places and tight in others. But honestly…neither are “wow”–maybe they just don’t photograph well, which is always a possibility! If you have the time, I’d keep shopping…

Wow. Some of these people sound like real jerks! I love that you can just put yourself out there like that. I don’t think I could do it!

To the question at hand: I think you look awesome in both, but I like the purple dress more. I think it hugs you in the right places and, as a personal preference, I prefer it to be less shiny. I also love the red shoes!

Another option to consider is to possibly borrow dresses from friends/cousins/sisters who are the same size as you. It has saved my cousin and I tons of money. The only thing we have to pay for is the dry cleaning bill!

Ooops… forgot to add, I love dress #2 on you, which hangs better on you. :)

Why would you even think about wearing a black dress to a wedding?

Hi ,

Well, unles it says its a formal white tie, I wouldn’t wear black. You have a very sute figure and I think it would be best shown off in someonething less form fitting at the stomach and hips. I would return these dresses and look for something else. If you really like this style for yourself, you may want to consider trying a bigger size and you can get it altered in certain areas if need, but it wouldn’t tug at the stomach and hips? Very beautiful face! You should consider playign it up
