My Scrapbooking Get-Together

November 19th, 2007 @ 3:19 pm by Mrs. Snow Pea

On Saturday, I hosted my first scrapbooking get-together. It was my first party as a newlywed, so I was really excited. Rarely do I get the chance to have all my girlfriends over, so I like to cook them something special. Maybe in a few years and when I have some peas of my own, I won’t feel this way anymore.

It was a real success - I had a great turn out and everyone worked on their own scrapbooks. Anyone who didn’t scrapbook just organized photos and made some cards of their children or nieces/nephews. I continued to work on my many Thank You and Christmas cards. My BM Lambchop brought me back some things too. She’s so talented! I should really stop calling her my BM. The wedding is over Snow Pea! I need to let go!

One of the pages on the inside. On the left are the bridal shower RSVPs. She asked everyone to mail in a picture and she placed near the corresponding RSVP. This was such a great idea!

This is my bridesmaid’s scrapbook album when we went to San Francisco. It comes as a kit and it’s really cool.

I also started working on my advent calendar using leftover red cardstock from my Christmas cards.

Name Tags:
I bought these address labels a while back at HomeGoods. Gosh, I love that store! There are always cheap finds! Since there were so many different ladies, I asked them to put name tags on to encourage mingling.

I didn’t mean to rip off from Hostess with the Mostess blog. I was so used to seeing “mostess” that I just spelled it that way.

A great website is Linnecards.com They sell these assorted SETS of scrapbook paper in really cute patterns. I highly recommend them.

No one leaves the Snow Pea House unless they are rolling out so here’s the scrappy menu!
Everything was mostly made from scratch and vegetarian.
z118198012

Grilled baby corn:
This was just canned baby corn, drained and grilled with butter and cinnamon. I stuck little toothpicks in them.

Veggie pancakes:
My neighbor who loves Korean food requested this and they were a real hit. Using a pair of kitchen shears I received off my registry, I snipped each small pancake into quarters to make them finger friendly. For the dipping sauce, I just used soy sauce, red vinegar (any vinegar will do), sesame oil and minced garlic. If I knew everyone liked spicey, I’d add chili peppers too.

Also, by popular demand, Barefoot Contessa’s Orzo and Feta (sans Grilled Shrimp). This is an amazingly easy and delicious dish that is great for 4 to 10 people. All the flavors go great together.

Also by request, black bean dip that our GM Asada taught me. I am not one for beans, but this is really tasty and easy. Just brown some onions with seasonings and blend it up with a can of black beans. I served it with multigrain chips with flax seed. (nod to Mrs. Bell Pepper)

Inspired by Martha Stewart’s Halloween ’07 magazine. Her recipe called for baked slices of butternut squash in the shape of maple leaves on pumpernickle bread. There was no way I was doing that so instead I used yellow cheddar! If you can’t see it here, the slices of bread have also been cut out with the mini cookie cutters.

I love my olive boat from Fishs Eddy! (seen in back) Fresh veggies and my own basil/garlic/olive oil dip and yogurt/cucumber/garlic dip.
z118198018

Fresh minced garlic, olive oil, basil, sea salt (yes it makes a difference) and black pepper.
z118198019

Fresh minced garlic, dill, cucumbers and plain yogurt. You could add some salt and lime. (Tequila!)

Chicken and White Bean Soup:
I even decided to make soup at the last minute. Too bad I didn’t get a picture of the actual soup because all them damn vultures devoured it all. It was chicken, my own stock, onion, white beans, parsley, zucchini and half a head of lettuce (I didn’t have kale). Kale or escarole are both good. Spinach tends to be too strong.

In return, my girlfriend made a homemade chocolate cake. This was delicious and there really is a difference between cakes made from scratch and those made out of the box.

Everyone seemed to have a good time and it was a great chance to catch up with some of my girlfriends. It was really relaxing and a nice break from school work.

What are some activities you have enjoyed doing lately?

Snowpea, you need to teach hostess classes. Between this spread and the dinner party you had with Mrs. Bell Pepper, I am in awe. I bow down to your impressive hostess skills.

This is so cool. I’ve been reading up on the Barefoot Contessa Parties book in preparation for Thanksgiving, and I love her tips.

Isn’t scrapbooking great? I’m not that fabulous at actually getting it done mind you, but when I work on it it’s like being back in school….only the really cool part of school where you get to work with glitter and feathers.

It seems like I’ve been scrapbooking every free moment since the honeymoon. We figured one book for the ceremony and reception, and one for the honeymoon. In reality, we have one leadning up to the wedding (from the engagement to the rehearsal four hours before the ceremony), one really thick book of the wedding and reception, one of the week between the wedding and the honeymoon cruise (partly in Massachusetts, partly in London), and two for the cruise itself.
Five scrapbooks. Madness.

Funn!!! Haha, just the other day, someone said they had scrapbooking get-togethers. My first impression was like, “really? that’s a group activity?” and then I thought about it a minute and was like, “I think I will be a scrapbooker in the future.”

I wish I could be a scrapbooker. Instead, I have loads of paper, stamps, stickers, pictures, ticket stubs, and other mementos stored in bags and bags under my bed. Hopefully one day I’ll get around to making the 1 yr anniversary scrapbook I had always intended to make for us.

p.s. yes ITA sea salt does make a “world of difference”

Looks like such a fun party! Scrapbooking is always a fun excuse to get together. I’m actually the author of the hostess with the mostess blog - and it’s a common phrase, and no worries at all! I actually love hearing it around :)

Awww Thanks Jenn! The labels were fun. Everyone wrote their name and some added something silly to it. I wish I had taken better photos. My dining room has an awful fluorescent lamps.
