Weekend Away

November 19th, 2007 @ 5:01 pm by Ms. Dahlia

Things have been pretty hectic for Mr. Dahlia and I over the past couple of weeks. Not only are the holidays quickly approaching, but so is the end of the semester- for me and my students. Which means that not only do I have papers to write, but I’m also spending quite a bit of time helping students with their papers, reading drafts and the like, before I find myself under a pile of papers to grade. Not to mention final exams.

Needless to say, between the school work, the impending holidays, and the busyness that is wedding planning (seriously, who knew that it would take so much time?), we haven’t taken a whole lot of time for ourselves.

My parents suggested last week that we go up to their cottage on Lake Erie for the weekend. We could get away for a bit, and my parents could come up for Saturday afternoon for the game. (I may live in Michigan, but I bleed Scarlet and Gray. I always go back to my people for the game.)
Weekend Away : wedding Dadand
My dad and I in Columbus last year for the game.

But the important thing was that Mr. Dahlia and I really got a chance to spend some quality time together. Since the cottage lacks internet access, we didn’t whittle away the time browsing the web, and instead talked, laughed, played games and explored the area. All the things that we really like to do, but haven’t done recently because we have been so busy. We returned home yesterday afternoon feeling greatly revived, both individually and as a couple, and are ready to tackle all of the various things that need to be done between now and Christmas. Both of us agreed that we really needed this past weekend to reconnect and remember why we’re getting married in the first place.

What are you doing to recuperate from wedding planning and all of the other stresses of life at this time of year?

Booooo! Boo on you Buckeyes! I am a Michigan fan through and through. I know I have absolutle nothing to cheer about at the moment but I will always boo the Buckeyes!

(as I would fully expect you to always boo the Maize & Blue so no hard feelings, right? I just couldn’t let that go un-booed. I’m sure you understand…)

Go Bucks!!!!

I know what you mean about having to take a break from wedding planning and take some time to reconnect. We moved to a new state in August (we miss Columbus so much!), and since then, he has only been home for 2 to 3 weeks at a time between deployments. It is hard with him being gone the vast majority of the time, and then trying to fit in lots of wedding planning when he is home when we’d both rather relax and just enjoy each other’s company.

This is hilarious. I don’t hate on the the school up north- they are, after all, paying for my grad school- but like I said, I need to go back to OH-IO for the game :-)

Where did your dad get that Neutron Man hat? It’s awesome. :)

And escaping wedding planning during the holidays?! HAH! That’s when I’m back in Cleveland, lady! I’m dress shopping the day before Thanksgiving and scoping out our two possible venues on Friday and Saturday. Relaxation? C’mon! ;)
