A “Fit”-ful Sunday

November 21st, 2007 @ 3:23 pm by Mrs. Magnolia

*Mr. Magnolia, this post is not for you to see!

On Sunday, I snagged a couple of girlfriends and headed over to LaRaine’s Boutique for my second dress fitting. At my first fitting, Topher the Super-Fab Tailor did a few things: He took some measurements to take in the dress a little bit, he checked out how best to add a simple bustle, and he measured and planned the re-make of the gown’s bodice. This was the part I was most excited about, because I truly feel like we’re personalizing my gown.

Here’s a picture of the bodice as it was when I received it:

Straight across in the front, and with gorgeous satin ribbon detail. When I try to describe the bodice to people, I ultimately end up calling it “geometric,” and I get crazy looks in return.

“Um, your wedding dress is…. geometric?”

As you can see, it’s not really, but it’s the only word I can come up with to describe the criss-crossing of the satin ribbon.

After trying on a bunch of wedding dresses, I knew that I really liked a sweetheart neckline, and Topher the Super-Fab Tailor promised that he could create one for this dress. He ordered some extra ribbon when we ordered the dress, and I have been anxiously awaiting the outcome…

And… it’s perfect! Unfortunately, I didn’t get any close-up pictures, but trust me - you would never know that the dress didn’t actually come with a sweetheart neckline!

Here’s the back of the dress:

And the “draft” bustle, which obviously will be much cleaner, and it will have two more points added before he’s done:

I truly couldn’t be more thrilled! I love the dress, I love the dress on me, and I love the changes that we’ve made.

How have you customized your wedding dress to make it your own?

What a lovely dress…and it is GEOMETRIC looking! I love how you changed the bodice. The sweetheart dip absolutely suits you.

My dress is a repro vintage party dress that I am having custom made from an inspiration picture. We are tweaking it a bit to suit my shape. I cannot wait to see it all come together.

love the sweetheart neckline! it’s so flattering on you.

my dress was a sample dress that was several sizes too large for me, but i loved the fabric and clean lines of it. at the salon, they would have charged me double the price of the dress (on sale for $200!) to take it down to size and tweak the neckline a little, but i found a seamstress experienced with wedding dresses who will do it for a fraction! i’m still waiting to see how it turns out, so it’s a little nerve wracking, but it definitely makes it feel more personalized.

Beautiful dress! Love what he has done! I am going back there on Saturday to try back on a dress that is so hard to explain but beautiful on! He said he could work magic with that one as well — add some sassy straps and other things! I am very very excited! And Love that boutique — so amazing that they allow pictures as well!!

Good luck — you look gorgeous!

I think “deco” could also describe your bodice, though I do like “geometric” better.

Either way it looks lovely!
