About Mrs. Canary

I’m Dreaming Of…

November 21st, 2007 @ 10:50 am by Mrs. Canary

With the holidays and my birthday right around the corner, I can’t help but dream of goodies. :) Though this year is a tough year for Mr. Canary and I because we’re (finally!) closing on our first home together. It’s probably going to happen in December or early January, so we are hoarding all our nuts like squirrels for the first big condo payment. Therefore, material gifts are going to be the last thing on our minds– not that having our home won’t be an amazing gift in and of itself! We’re really excited for a physical and tangible symbol of the start of our life together. So instead of a crazy gift exchange (Mr. C and I are always finding ways to top each other’s gifts) we’re going to dinner at Bouley (which I’ve been dying to try) for my birthday and Christmas. Not too shabby.

But if I had an ultimate wish list (also inspired by Miss Penguin’s post on the boards), here’s what would be on it…

  • The awesome Diana+ camera from Lomography. It’s a replica of the vintage Diana camera that takes photos with a grainy and washed out texture. Remember the days of waiting for film to develop before seeing your pictures? The anticipation can be sort of exciting. :)

Wedding idea: Perfect for a snap-happy bridesmaid or groomsman to capture any “off-color” moments.

The starter kit is only $50 from Lomography. Also available at Urban Outfitters.

  • Some super cute and useful kitchen accessories from Beehive Kitchenware. I wanna buy everything! Check out the bird-related items that I’m seriously coveting. It’s all too adorable. A lot of the items on the site would make for great, creative, yet functional wedding gifts.

Wedding idea: Great gifts for your bridal shower host/hostess.

  • This ridiculously overpriced but oh so pretty book. I love Charley Harper illustrations and this is a showcase of the best! Remember those Golden Books? Yeah… I still buy them for the pictures. Always a kid at heart…

Charley Harper: An Illustrated Life from AMMO Books, $200*
*I know the price is high, but hey, this is a “wish” list, right? ;)

  • Kinder Bars are what I crave the most when I’m having a sugar rush. I discovered them as a child when my relatives in Paris would mail them by the boatload for Christmas. Why are they not more readily available in the U.S.! No fair. I am in love with Kinder Bars. This must be the most satiating thing on a bad day.

Nothing tops the joy Kinder Bars bring me, except maybe the penultimate Kinder Surprise!

Oh yes, it’s a hollow chocolate egg with the most awesome “surprise” toy on the inside!

Wedding idea: I have never met a child who didn’t like Kinder Bars. They’re made for kids (hence “kinder”). These would be great for the younger guests. I plan on making gift bags for the kids attending the wedding and I’m definitely going to include some sort of Kinder goodness.

But in all seriousness, the best gift this holiday season is finally getting to live in the same city and apartment as Mr. Canary. The biggest Kinder Bar in the world couldn’t make that any sweeter. :)

What’s on your holiday wish list?

I love Bouley. I’m a huge foodie and I eat there quite often. I love how the entryway smells like apples, and the lemon cake they give the female diners as they’re leaving is delicious! Enjoy!

Hey miss canary - I have two of the actual Diana cameras if you are interested….I have never used them because of the whole film thing. I did buy them used, but I am pretty sure they work.

Mmm, Kinder bars! I too always got spoiled with good european chocolate from my relatives in Germany. I’ve been able to *sometimes* find them at World Market/Cost Plus stores, but they definately don’t taste as creamy as the ones direct from Europe.

I still have all of my Golden books!

We’ve decided that it’s just stockings for us this year. It’s been interesting trying to find the perfect somethings that will fit inside a sock. :) It also helps me keep on budget.

My favorite thing to do this year is pour over the Vermont Country Store catalog and look at all the old-time treats and toys. It’s my new Sears-Roebuck.

dreambml: Thanks for the offer! But I will have to pass. I’m not supposed to accumulate any more stuff before the move! Maybe I’ll get one after the move to do cool vintage-y shots of my new place. :)

meleven: I’m close, but on the first! So just a single 1. Happy pre-birthday and Thanksgiving to you too!

Ahhh, Kinder Eggs. :) We survived two weeks in Europe on a cramped tour bus - all thanks to those goofy little Kinder toys.

My wish list this year only has one item - a pink Razr phone. Yes, I’m the last person in the world to get one. ;)

You just made me curious again and I looked them up! Eurofoodmart.com has great prices on kinder bars. $1.09 for 4 bars!

I love Kinder Eggs. Mr. Jasmine surprised me with many Kinder bars and eggs while we were in London.

We also used to eat Yorkie bars– they say “Not for Girls” on the front. I would get such a kick out of showing that to Mr. Jasmine and eating it anyway.

The Zeytuna market down on 59 Maiden Lane sells Kinder bars and other kinder stuff pretty frequently. That’s usually where I get my easter candy for people!

If you’re looking for Kinder eggs/kinder candy, check out Economy Candy on the LES. They always have a large selection of Kinder candy. Also, if you’re ever on Long Island, Shop Rite always carries Kinder (three types!)
