This time last year, we were in St. Lucia for our honeymoon! When we arrived at the airport, we noticed right away that it resembled the Piton Mountains for which the island is famous.

For the first three nights on St. Lucia, we stayed at Ladera which is a magnificent resort that’s very open to nature, with only 6 villas and 21 suites. Ladera has the most breathtaking views of the Pitons and Caribbean Sea. Everywhere there is this beautiful rich wood, and lots of it is carved.

Although the suites & villas are close, each is super private and quiet. At night we only heard the sounds of nature and babbling water from our private plunge pool.
Each suite and villa at Ladera has only 3 walls. The 4th is an “open wall” allowing for uninterrupted panoramic views.

Below is the spectacular sight from our plunge pool. To the far left is the Petite Piton. On the right is the Gros Piton.

Meals were at Dasheen restaurant, the award-winning restaurant at Ladera. The restaurant is also open air.

From the restaurant you can see the villa and suite rooftops.

At the foot of Dasheen is the famous infinity pool which was filmed in Superman II. Also notice the September 11 memorial tile near the pool.

Between the infinity pool and Dasheen there is a lounge area with a fully stocked bar. This is where the live entertainment takes place each night. Again, you get a full wide open view of the Pitons and Caribbean Sea.

There was a bit of a mix up between us and our travel agent. We were to be booked in a villa but got a suite. Ladera was AWESOME, and although it wasn’t their fault by any means, they moved us to a villa. Below is a tour of our villa, and oh, that view!
Below is a surreal sunset shot from the plunge pool in our villa. On the left you can see the clouds raining. It misted often on St. Lucia, but it always passed so quickly. The silver sliver in the sky is the moon. And in the water you can see a cruise ship. It’s the only one we saw on our trip and it never docked. It just passed on by in the sunset.

Ladera is very laid back. It’s like you are on nature’s time. No phones. No tv. Yes, there’s internet, but it’s on one computer near the open air reception area. Ladera is a place to go for peace, quiet and inner reflection. It was the perfect calmness we were seeking after the whirlwind of the wedding.
