Welcome to La-La Land!

November 23rd, 2007 @ 2:14 pm by Mrs. Jasmine

I’m in LA for Thanksgiving weekend– it’s so good to be home! I adore Chicago, but a little part of me misses the sunshine and palm trees of So Cal. I’m so excited to introduce our many out-of-town guests to Los Angeles next year.

To that end, I want to put together a “Welcome to LA” basket for all of our out-of-town wedding guests. I’ve started to brainstorm about what kind of items I could include, but I’m coming up short. Here are some ideas I have so far:

- A personal note and wedding events itinerary on palm tree stationery
- A map of Los Angeles and brochures from various LA tourist attractions
- Sunblock
- In ’N Out gift card (but our guests might leave before getting to use them)
- Flip-flops
- Bottled water

Does anyone have any suggestions of fun, affordable, LA-specific items that I could include?

Some sort of snack from a local bakery, cookies, cupcakes, or something along those lines.

you should add magazines such as USWeekly or People, since it’s filled with celebrity gossip and pics, and LA is definitely known for that

Maybe a Hollywood-themed keychain or magnet?

I’ve heard so much about In ‘N Out…giving a gift card is such a sweet idea. What about an LA postcard? A snack (nuts, popcorn, cookies) is always appreciated as well.

I’m doing the same thing, it is a little tricky on what to put in without giving off the “I’m better than you because I’m from LA” vibe… (although I am going to do the celebrity bottled water, smart or pelligrino or something)
Maybe include some california wine? A CD with songs about Cali? A star map? Sunkist something (The valley was all orange grooves once a upon a time). Totally do the gossip mag’s, most of the pics are taken just around the corner no matter where you live in LA. for the women, cheap BIG sunglasses.
Good luck, tell me how it goes!

Okay, not exactly LA, but you could get them a Frittelli’s doughnut packaged in one of their cute little blue boxes. They’re so darn good, I’d almost go back just for that!

Cupcakes from Sweet Lady Janes! How about a restaurant guide?

Which tourist locations are you including? There are some not-so-touristy things that are fun too…

How about : the Hollywood Bowl, LACMA , Getty, Walt Disney Concert Hall, La Brea Tar Pits, Griffith Park Observatory, 3rd Street Promenade, and Huntington Library?

Hi Ms. Jasmine! How about a little package of Diddy Reese cookies (Westwood by UCLA in case you haven’t tried them before)? Those are so good!

Maybe something with Lakers or Dodgers?

The celebrity magazines are such a great idea! I hadn’t thought of that. I am doing the LA brochures and there are TONS at the Hollywood & Highland complex. I picked up everything I needed in one trip. It was great!

Good Luck!

i was totally going to suggest diddy riese cookies too! anyway, those would be delicious. if you’re planning on decorating the out of town bags/boxes, i’d suggest you make “rodeo drive-esque” stars, and instead of the celebrities’ names, insert your guests’!

Diddy Reese cookies! Only what, 35 cents each? I also love Paulette’s macaroons, but they’re significantly more expensive.

Copies of LA Weekly and LA Guide would be great (and free).

I agree with all the posters above mentioning diddy riese cookies! They’re a UCLA staple! If you go to the fashion district, you can get LA specific baseball caps or beanies or visors 3 for $10 - UCLA, USC, Dodgers, etc…

Found 2 other cute ideas…
I bought some Beeches gum with names and date printed…for somethng like 6 bucks for 100 pieces..(pronounced Beaches)..
NO charge for printing..Yeah Baby!
also found 11″bridal beachballs cheap..By the dozen…with the Oriental Trading Company..Keep in mind the things from this company are more cute that quality..BUT the gum of course is standard..Where is your wedding and reception going to be…?

For our guests baskets, we’re giving them See’s candy (the Eastcoasters love it), maps of the locale where we’re having our wedding (South Bay), seasonal fruits, and water.

I like the In-N-Out idea…just tell your guests they HAVE to try it before they leave!

Or better yet, if you still have time and room in your budget you should have them cater a late night snack at your wedding a la Mrs. Daisy and Mrs. Emerald!
