Daughters Cambodia with The White Aisle

November 26th, 2007 @ 1:22 pm by Mrs. Bee

Rebecca from The White Aisle contacted us back in August regarding an organization she’s working with called Daughters Cambodia in Phnom Phen, a day center for girls working in brothels that provides access to showers, basic hygiene, and vocational training.  On a recent trip, she donated sewing machines so the girls could make simple things from local silks that she could sell on her site, and hopefully find a way out of the brothel life.

Rebecca just returned from her trip to Cambodia and based on weddingbee reader feedback, she’s put a couple of items made by the girls up for sale on her site.  Currently beautiful handmade silk flowers, silk sashes, and silk ring pillows are available, but handbags and shawls will be added by the New Year.  Custom orders are available with a turnaround time of 4-6 weeks (they will receive monthly shipments).

100% of the profits go straight back to Cambodia.  24 girls have left the sex industry all together, and more are beginning the process to do the same.  This is a really great cause, and the pricing was set at the lower end of what weddingbee readers suggested, so please be sure to click over and help support this wonderful cause! :)

The roses are gorgeous! I’m going to wait until they have the orchids, but I will definitely order from here. What a great idea to help these girls out!

We just went to Cambodia in August and were simply amazed by the locale and the people. We actually bought about 80 silk scarves from the marketplace to give as favors for our wedding. Thanks for the link. :)
