My Very Productive Weekend

November 26th, 2007 @ 8:23 am by Mrs. Jasmine

I was in Los Angeles for Thanksgiving weekend and I finally got to do some hands-on wedding planning! Planning from afar has been difficult, mostly because I felt very removed from the whole process. But now the wedding feels very real and we’re almost at the six month mark– very exciting! Here are some of the major wedding activities I enjoyed last weekend:

(1) I saw my venue: Believe it or not, this was my first time seeing my venue and thankfully, I love it! The InterContinental Los Angeles is so chic and sophisticated, but with the intimacy and service of a boutique hotel. It has a very modern Asian aesthetic that matches my theme nicely and the ballroom is so lovely. I’m so excited to finally be able to visualize where I will say my vows!

(2) I met my coordinator: I also had the wonderful opportunity to lunch with my fabulous coordinator, Angel Swanson. We ate at an inventive Thai-Italian fusion restaurant and then she introduced me to the deliciously addicting wonder that is Pinkberry. It was our first time meeting in person and we had a wonderful time! Angel is unbelievably stylish, creative, and sweet and we immediately got to work dreaming up some fun concepts for the wedding decor and menu. I also love that we both share a mutual obsession with Anthropologie and Sylar from Heroes.

(3) I bought my dress: I know, I can’t believe it either. After swearing up and down that I was going to let my parents choose my outfit in India, I ended up finding “the one” and buying it! My parents and I were in Artesia, the “Little India” of southern California, when we stopped at Frontier, a high-end Indian clothing boutique with an amazing bridal selection. And that’s when I saw it: a beautiful deep burgundy lehnga with antique gold embroidery, bead and stonework all over it. I fell in love and when I tried it on, I not only felt really beautiful, but I felt like a bride. I decided that I had to have it. So that was very, very exciting! I don’t have pictures (I know, I’m a bad blogger!), but I will go back for my fitting in April and I will definitely take some then!

How was your weekend? Did you accomplish any fun wedding tasks?

I carried my dress, shoes, crinoline, and earrings to my parents’ house, got delayed on both flights, and put the florist contract and deposit in the mail!

We also got the MOB and MOG dresses, which is a big load off my back as well.

Sylar scares meeee! I tried on dresses (to no avail, alas), picked a florist, saw the venue for the first time also, and asked our last groomsman! YAY!

Congrats! I can’t wait to see the photos of your dress. And FYI, Anthropologie is having a massive sale right now. I got three dresses, all for around $100, a blazer for $60, and a jacket for $30!! My winter wardrobe is basically set now.

Angel Swanson is a favorite vendor on the LA Knotties board. Good choice! And good job on being productive, too bad I can’t say the same. I spent time with some old friends one of whom is getting married as well (yay!), saw family, helped my Mother pick out granite slabs for her new kitchen, and shopped a bit. Oh wait, I set-up a meeting with a possible photographer. OK, I was mildly productive.

Congrats on everything! I live in LA and am from the bay area but getting married in Tahoe. We went up to Tahoe on Saturday, met our planner for the first time and saw the church and the reception venue too! It was so exciting and made everything feel real. Now we just have to figure out how/when/where to have the Sri Lankan ceremony.

Congrats on such a productive wedding weekend in socal. I was a bm in my friend’s wedding last January where Angel was her DOC. She was fabulous and very caring towards her bride so you are in great hands for sure. Her sister was at the wedding that we were in and they worked very well as a team.
