Christmas Crafting

November 27th, 2007 @ 8:24 am by Mrs. Toucan

Christmas crafts are my absolute favorite! So this weekend, I took a break from wedding planning to make Christmas decorations and goodies for our apartment. Here’s what I made:

Candy cane reindeer, Poinsettia Trees

Since I was a kid, I loved making candy cane reindeer. My supplies included a hot glue gun, red pom-poms, googly-eyes, pipe cleaners, jingle bells, ribbon, and of course, candy canes!
Here are the steps :

After gluing on the pom-pom nose and googly-eyes, use half a piece of pipe cleaner and twist around the candy cane to make antlers. I also strung a jingle bell on some ribbon and glued it on to get this:

Hello Rudolph! :)
I usually like to stick these as extras on my Christmas gifts. Kids especially get a kick out of the reindeer candy canes!

As my second (and third project), I made poinsettia Christmas trees to decorate my apartment. On Friday morning, I raided Michael’s to take advantage of the sales, and I picked up red and white silk poinsettias, Christmas floral picks and some Styrofoam cones.

I simply cut the flowers off using pliers and poked them into the Styrofoam.
And voila!

The project was so simple and easy, I made two trees! :) For this second smaller tree, I used a different “topper” and added two cardinal birds for some color.

This project can easily be replicated or even altered to make centerpieces or wreaths for a wedding. You can use any flower of your choice and use any shape of styrofoam!
