Sorry I’ve been so “gone” lately! It seems like there isn’t much to blog about until you get your photos back! Now Mrs. Kiwi is here, a few of her photos uploaded and ready to post.
First, I want to talk about the children’s choir - they were amazing, and one of the things most complimented. I’ve mentioned before that Mr. Kiwi works as a teacher and coach at a Catholic school, with students who adore him. When a few former students were offered the chance to sing at our wedding, the few who couldn’t make it were actually in tears! Wow! These kids love Mr. Kiwi, I suppose!
Anyway, I must thank Maeve, the music coordinator who withstood agonizing back pain to help with our wedding. When the three of us met, Mr. K and I told her we really weren’t planning on a specific song or playlist for the ceremony- it was really up to her to decide- all I mentioned was that I loved the song “The Rose” (you may remember it from Napoleon Dynamite, when they were signing the words), and Death Cab for Cutie’s “I Will Follow you Into the Dark” (and that I wanted Pachebel’s song to play as I went down the aisle).
The Choir (Maeve is playing the guitar in the front)

As Mr. Kiwi and I sat at the altar, the children began to sing, with one child doing the solo singing at a time. The sound of the angelic voices all blending together was really touching, and I began to cry at the altar- this is what I had wanted, what I had pictured. It was simply beautiful. I must say that I have no idea what song was sung- I was too busy trying to compose myself. I will ask Mr. K to find out.
The next song that was sung was called “Wherever you go”, typically a song sung at funerals, due to its graphic chorus, “Wherever you will die, I will be there”, a nod to my obsession with the Death Cab song. Other parts of the chorus, “Wherever you will go, I will follow”, when sung by a young girl are seriously heartbreaking. I turned back around (see picture below) to see how my sappy father was faring. Not well.

After the last few readings, the final song began. What was it? It was “The Rose”, lyrics found here. Sure, not necessarily upbeat and “marriagey”, but my favorite song ever sung by the choir. The girl who sang, Katrina, had the voice of a star, and the song was sung so clearly, with the choir’s strong tones backing her up.
Whenever I think of my wedding, I will remember the voices almost from Heaven itself, singing for us on that day. And the altar boy signing “The Rose” as they sang- since we were the only ones able to see him. ![]()
