Ceremony Script - Rough Cut 2

November 29th, 2007 @ 2:20 pm by Mrs. Penguin

My Myrtle and I got together over a bottle of Amador County wine last night to discuss our ceremony script. I’m excited to share with you the second draft… it’s long for a post, but it’s so special! Mr. Penguin and I will submit our vows to her privately, so those won’t be revealed until after the wedding. We’ve yet to decide on readings, but the main “idea” is all there, and most of the script is based on readings and passages from the book “The Wedding Ceremony Planner” by Reverend Judith Johnson, PhD.

Here it is, in all its semi-polished glory.

PROCESSIONAL

WELCOMING WORDS

Welcome everyone! Miss and Mr. Penguin have asked all of you to be with them here today because each of you has given something of yourselves into their lives. Your friendship and love will always be appreciated.

Whenever we attend a wedding celebration, we are given the opportunity to reexamine our own lives.

We might look at the happiness of Miss and Mr. Penguin and be tempted to compare their joy to the quality of our own relationships. The truth is that each one of us is a powerful creator in the dance of our own love and marriage. Each one of us, each moment of every day, has the choice to rededicate ourselves to one another or to withhold our love and caring.

Let us be bound by Miss and Mr. Penguin’s example to make our promises to one another and to remember that life and love are good.

Love is powerful.
It is simple.
Yet it is very complex.

It is love that gives the deepest meaning to our lives.
It is our highest calling, our greatest purpose, and our finest achievement.

One of the greatest joys of a wedding day is the joining together of the couples family and friends.
Miss and Mr. Penguin are forever grateful to each and every one of you for the loving, caring, friendship, and support that you have given them throughout their lives.
Being able to share their wedding day with you, surrounded by your love and support, is a blessing.
Knowing that your best wishes go forward with Miss and Mr. Penguin strengthens them as they embark upon their glorious journey as husband and wife.

READING #1, TBD

DECLARATION OF SUPPORT

Miss and Mr. Penguin would like to acknowledge their parents, whose love, support, and nurturing are such an essential part of who they are today.

They thank you for being their first teachers of the power and possibilities of love.

May you take great pride in the fact that the seeds of love you have planted in Miss and Mr. Penguin will flourish in the formation of this new family today.

Let us all remember, today and always, that there is nothing more important than loving one another.

READING #2, TBD

MARRIAGE ADDRESS

Marriage is the essence of human relationships. It challenges us to be of one accord without abandoning the truth of our individuality.

It challenges us to recognize ourselves in one another, and to admire and respect each other while walking side-by-side, heading in the same direction.

Do not just be married or in love, but let your marriage be an active process of loving each other.
Let your love be an inspiration to others to reach for what is good within all of us. May your love be so abundant that you have plenty to share with the rest of us as well.

Miss and Mr. Penguin, it is your love that has brought us together here today. June XXth will always have special meaning for you as the day you vowed to love each other in all ways, always.

Each year when you come upon your anniversary, I encourage you to rededicate yourselves to the vows you make here today. Take stock of where you are in your marriage and how you are doing as partners. Express your gratitude to each other for the ways you have loved and supported one another, and forgive yourselves and each other for any disagreements that have come between you.

Show each other that you can be trusted and counted on for comfort when facing difficult times, and celebrate abundantly the successes and joys life brings your way. Let your love lead the way and be more important than anything else. May your love grow deeper and sweeter with each passing day.

LINDA’s THOUGHTS AND ADDITIONS

May your days “for better”, “for richer” and “in health” far outnumber stormy days and times of trouble.

As you live and love throughout the years, may you realize all the joy that marriage can bring, and know that all your days have been happier because you have shared them with each other.

And now by the power vested in me by the state of California, it is my great honor and pleasure to pronounce you husband and wife. Congratulations and God Bless You!

You may kiss the bride!

Ladies and Gentlemen, its my great pleasure to present to you Mr. and Mrs. Penguin!

Oh my gosh! You have no idea how happy I am to see you post about this book and your private vows. Your ceremony sounds beautiful!

Bob and I are having a recently ordained friend officiate our wedding and between the three of us, are at a complete loss as to where to start writing the script.

I cannot thank you enough for this link!

Agreed - thank you for sharing. That looks really close to what my FI and I have been thinking of; I love how it invites your guests to reflect upon their own love and relationships.

I have “The Wedding Ceremony Planner” book by Reverend Judith Johnson, PhD. and I cannot recommend it enough. She has everything in there for ANY type of situation. My fiance and I have been pouring over it to find exactly what we want. It’s been invaluable.

Your ceremony sounds wonderful!

ps… for your readings… you may want to try “Blessing of the Hands” It’s what we’re using and it’s just beautiful…

Princess Cupcake and Mr. Cupcake, please face each other and hold hands, so you may feel the gift that you are to one another.

These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and vibrant with love, that are holding yours on your wedding day as you promise to love each other all the days of your lives.

These are the hands that will work alongside yours, that will give you support and encouragement, as together you build your future and share your innermost hopes and dreams.

These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, for a lifetime of happiness and that even when wrinkled with time will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.

These are the hands that will tenderly hold your children and help you hold your family as one.

These are the hands that will countless times wipe tears from your eyes; tears of sorrow and tears of joy.

These are the hands that will comfort you in illness, console you when you are grieving and hold you tight, offering you strength and courage in the face of adversity.

These are the hands that will enter the Sacrament of Matrimony. These four hands will be your armor and shield against the evils and temptations of the world.

These are the hands that will reach out, first to each other, then united, will spread your love and your sacrament to all they touch.

God, bless these hands that you see before you this day. May they always be held by one another. Give them the strength to hold on during the storms of stress and the dark of disillusionment. Keep them tender and gentle as they nurture each other in their wondrous love. Help these hands to continue building a relationship founded in your grace, rich in caring, and devoted in reaching for your perfection. May Princess Cupcake and Mr. Cupcake see their four hands as healer, protector, shelter, and guide.

We ask this in your name, Amen.
