I Need Help!

November 29th, 2007 @ 1:12 pm by Mrs. Magnolia

Okay, Weddingbee readers… I have a request.

Mr. Magnolia and I are lucky enough to be having a holiday-themed couples shower this Saturday night, hosted by four of our fabulous friends. We’re so looking forward to it — I know that they’ve gone all out with the planning, and we’re anticipating a great crowd and a fantastic time!

Here’s my dilemma: hostess gifts. I’ve purchased four damask serving bowls from Target…

…this is the same pattern, but for whatever reason, Target doesn’t sell the serving bowl online. It’s a round, deep bowl, about eight inches in diameter. What I’m trying to figure out is what to put in the bowls! I don’t want to spend too much money, since I have to put together four of these things. Ideally, I’d like to stay under $20 per person.

Here are the options I’ve come up with:

Fruit

Wine/cheese/etc

Bath/Body products

Ornaments/holiday accents

Since the shower is two days away, online purchases aren’t really an option, so I need suggestions that I’m going to be able to find pretty easily in Atlanta… Michael’s, Ikea, Target, WalMart, World Market, etc.

What do you think? How should I fill these bowls to provide a super-fab hostess gift?

What about purchasing 4 matching mugs and adding coffee or teas from World Market, along with some little biscuits or cookies?

tangerines are inexpensive and seasonal right now, and they are such a treat! i also never have enough lemons and limes in teh house and citrus is bright and decorative as well as being useful. i think the colors would look super in this bowl!

How about making each one unique to fit the hostess? Teas, bath products, even holiday decorations depending on each hostess. Or for something completely different little toys and games!

Maybe you could put in a mini poinsettia plant and some tissue paper around it

I was in Ikea last week and they had some very cute holiday stuff-and very inexpensive too. I’d maybe get a couple of 4-packs of ornaments and break them up into the bowls.

I like the ornament idea. Those would look so beautiful with just those round shiny colorful ornaments mounded up in them.

I’d totally do ornaments in those bowls. They won’t go bad and they’re a ready-made centerpiece for your friends. Plus, a few packs of them aren’t expensive (a dozen ornaments for $5).

I would bake something. It is cheap but adds a lot of thoughtfulness to the gift. Cookies, rolls or you could even make caramel corn or something…

I agree with the ornaments - that would be such a pretty gift and fit the holiday theme! From a fellow Atlanta bride, you could always go to Swoozies or Paper Affairs if you have time and look for unique ornaments there. Good luck!

I would definitely do the ornaments - shiny silver would look beautiful in those bowls! Try the $ store, you’d be surprised at some of the ornaments that they sell.

At Pier 1, they have silver and white stripey ones and some black ones. I believe they hit sale this weekend, so you should be able to save some moolah!

How about red candies? I think it would go great with the black and white. Mix up chocolate kisses wrapped with red foil. All girls like chocolate, and its a nice contrast.
