About Miss Gardenia

Welcome Home

November 29th, 2007 @ 4:12 pm by Mrs. Gardenia

We finally DID it! Mr. Gardenia and I now have a place of our own to call HOME.

What a relief it has been to finally have found our new place. This has been one of the most mind boggling things we have had on our wedding checklist, because we were so uncertain as to our living situation. We were beginning to really consider living with his mom after the wedding in order to give us some time to look around for our place. But our goal was to really find a place and move in right before the wedding to get most of our things settled in.

While the wedding is a momentous event, for us moving out is just as momentous. Mr. Gardenia and I have lived with both of our parents all our lives, and I mean ALL of our lives. We both attended commuter schools while we were in college, so we didn’t have the need to live in dorms or move into an apartment. With that said, moving out was truly something that we both have been looking forward to for a while now, starting this new life in our own space.

This week we just signed our lease and our move in date is in 2 weeks. How exciting! We’re looking forward to furniture shopping, painting, moving in and decorating for the holidays. FI is adamant about decorating with a real tree this year and hosting a dinner party for our parents and siblings to say thanks for all that they’ve done for us and for the wedding.

What has been the most exciting part about moving in together for you?

It is all so exciting moving in togther. We too lived with our parent our WHOLE lives before the wedding. Just a little friendly advice, dont throw a dinner party right away. I know its just family, but you will be so overwhelmed with stuff for the first month or two that it will be somewhat stressful. or maybe that was just me. We had small amounts of people over at first and then this weekend I am having a all girls brunch and next weekend he is having Sunday football with the guys.

Living together is so much fun and exciting. We moved in together shortly after we first starting date and it has been wonderful since day 1. Congrats on the new home!

Well, we moved in together a long time ago, but now after the wedding, we’ve been doing a lot of redecorating (with our wedding gift money), which has been so much fun! We painted the living room, got giant floor to ceiling bookcases, and new furniture!

My Fi and I moved in together shortly after we started dating. While we had both lived with roommates before (we are in our thirties after all) I had never lived with a boyfriend and had never palnned too! I was admant about not livng with someone before I was engaged at least. Life has a way of changing your mind. We fit so well together that it just made sense, plus he was at my place all the time anyway.

It is very different living with a boyfriend than a roommate. I have no problem complaning to him about the dishes in the sink or leaving the towels on the floor…his job is to please me (he’s nodding at me as i read this aloud to him). With roommates I may have commented a time or two but I worried more about them being offended than I do him. Roommates have a more temporary feel and if we can’t live together we move on too the next place or roommate.

Well we buillt our house together - from the ground up. So just actually being done with it, after spending every waking minute (besides our regular full time jobs) on the construction site - that was the most exciting part about it!
