My Yummy Confession

November 30th, 2007 @ 11:31 am by Mrs. Emerald

After Thanksgiving, I caught a nasty cold and was stuck veggin’ at home. The day of doing nothing led to numerous trips to the fridge. I couldn’t help it… that frozen block of foil-wrapped buttercream goodness kept calling out, “EAT ME!” So what did I do? DUH! I’ve been trying to resist its call for the past 3 months, but finally I caved in, defrosted it, and cut myself a tasty slice. My Yummy Confession : wedding cake post wedding Laughin072 laughin072

This is what I found when I unwrapped the layers of foil.

My Yummy Confession : wedding cake post wedding Z120467 DSC02969

Why was it already missing a chunk? I actually left it at my parents’ house while we were on our honeymoon, and it was too big for their freezer… so they helped themselves! No biggie, I actually told them to eat some while we were gone, haha.

I cut the cake into four manageable chunks and individually wrapped them in foil. Two went back in the freezer for a rainy day (or another sick day perhaps)… and the other two are already in my stomach. Well, Mr. E helped too… but just a little! My Yummy Confession : wedding cake post wedding Blush031 blush031 The cake was vanilla chiffon with rasberry mousse, cream cheese filling and buttercream frosting. Mmmmm… after looking at these pictures, I may need to defrost another piece right now…

I feel a wee bit guilty that we won’t have the “traditional” experience of enjoying this cake on our one year anniversary, but I figure it tastes better now anyways! What are your thoughts on this tradition? Anyone else guilty?

I got married in Washington state, but we live in South Carolina. There was no way a frozen top layer was going to make it back on two plane rides and a long drive home. So, we ate it on our honeymoon :) It was so yummy adn I don’t regret it for a second. Besides, next year I’ll have an excellent reason to buy a kick butt anniversary cake!

that’s too funny. our top layer is frozen at my in-laws so we can’t sneak any. and even though my MIL has a very sweet tooth, i’m hoping becuase we sent her home with the bulk of the 2nd layer that she ate already she’ll be nice and not dig into ours.

random question — is that a crate and barrel plate? is that something you registered for? that was the other pattern we were considering and we ended up going with the kita set (with the black rim).

Onion - Yes! That is C&B’s Celadon dinnerware, and that is something we registered for! Its one of my favorite gifts cuz its casual enough for everyday use, but pretty enough for guests! The pale seafoam color is lovely and the swirl pattern is very dainty… and I LOVE that the dishes were made in JAPAN! Japanese dishware is fabulous and high quality.

My husband and I were married in Texas but lived in California at the time. We actually flew back to CA with our cake top as a carry on! We froze the cake and ate it on our first anniversary….and it was TERRIBLE! I have no frame of reference since I didn’t get a chance to taste my cake on the day, but it tasted bad. I don’t recommend this tradition at all. Enjoy it while it tastes good!

Haha, you’re so cute Mrs. Emerald. I would probably do the exact same thing. =) As beautiful your cake is, it looks (and sounds!) even more delicious. I think I would just dive right in. ;)

We didn’t get a chance to eat any cake (except for the bite when we cut it) so we ate the top layer (with help from family) :) the day after the wedding!

We’ve been “taste testing” for several months. This past weekend marked 6 mos. for us, and we’ve been chipping away at a slab that was left over from the pretty cake we cut. (We served the same thing, but sheet cake, to guests, and it was all gone!) The top layer is frozen at my parents’. Each month we try (or try to try) some of the left-over slab to see how it’s goin’…Yum! We finished off the last of it this weekend, and it was tas-tee! =) (For the home slab, I wrapped it in a single layer of that weird self-stick cling wrap — Press & Seal? — and a single layer of foil, and it’s been fine! The top layer is encased in much more, so I’m optimistic about the results and yummy cake!) I heard you’re s’posed to thaw slowly, and that’s the secret…but we eat it still partially frozen ‘cuz that make the frosting & filling oh-so-deliciously frozen-creamy like ice cream…mmmmm….

I 100% support eating your cake. We saved two pieces of our topper for our anniversary, but brought the rest on our honeymoon. It just seemed soooooo ridiculous to save the entire cake top…even if it does taste wonderful next year, we arent’ going to eat the WHOLE top on our anniversary!

i knew i’d be like you if i tried to save my cake for a whole year, or i’d try and get sad if the power went out and it defrosted… so we packed ours in our luggage and ate a slice after EVERY meal on our honeymoon!! our honeymoon consisted of a lot of meals packed and eaten on the beach… i still remember oh so delicious lunches of pb&j, doritos, and of course a slice of cake. mmmm.

i always told myself i’d go back to the bakery and ask them to make me a smaller cake of the same flavors on our anniversaries, but i totally forgot! and we’ve already had two anniversaries.

my aunt and uncle who got married over 30 years ago STILL have their cake in their freezer. they cut a tiny slice every year on their anniversary and eat it. they claim it still tastes good, and they have an amazing marriage and are still all over each other. maybe it’s something in the cake!

First off - love the plate. We have the same set. =) Secondly, I fully expect to do the exact same thing. I can’t SLEEP if I know there’s a treat in the house, much less hold out a whole year…

I love Tina’s idea of eating a piece of cake every day of her honeymoon!

My hubby and I cut our top tier cake into 12 pieces and shared a piece every month until we got to our 1st year anniversary!

I should get another one for our second but I am curious how much it would cost….
