After searching around for some holiday ribbon, I came across Queen & Co. self-adhesive felt ribbon.

What is the perfect thing to do with wedding photos hot off the presses? Why make a photo greeting card of course. Last year Mr. Onion & I bought our first couple holiday card with a few engagement photos from Kodak Gallery. While we were happy with the product and the customer service, we ended up having to go back and forth with them for too long to make me happy.
This year I decided to see what Snapfish.com had to offer and I just fell in love with this hip retro style green card that was a perfect color contrast for the candid photo I picked of us right after our ceremony. The card is under their “holiday chic” section. Coupon Code Below!

While I’m waiting for the DVD of pro pics from our Saturday wedding, I thought I’d share the pics from our crazy, pink Chinese banquet. The person who documented the day was our videographer from our Saturday wedding. In the artistic sense, his pictures leave much to be desired. I was frustrated by the end of the night because we were asked to take about a billion cheesy, posed pictures. But now that we have the photographs back, I’m happy that we at least had someone there to document the event. He even made his way around the room to get table pictures of the guests during dinner.
The banquet was very different than our wedding on Saturday. It was loud, crowded, and pretty crazy. I mentioned before that I’m an introvert. Well, all the commotion was a little overwhelming to me. I found myself hiding in a the “bridal suite” (aka, a dark closet upstairs) for the first hour of the event. Guests ate dinner and left as quickly as possible. In fact, many of the attendees didn’t pay attention to the speeches or slideshow, grabbed more than one wedding favor out of the baskets, and left before dinner ended. It just felt like some just didn’t care much to be there. I predict it’s probably because most of the guests were our parents’ or grandparents’ friends and they have never met Mr. Eggplant or me before. It’s hard to care about a wedding when you don’t know the bride or groom.
Anyway, onto the pictures!

Reduce, reuse, recycle! We brought over a few flower balls from our Saturday wedding to reuse them in our decor.
We also reused our signage and candy buffet.
Though I’ve mentioned them in passing before, Mr. Hummingbird and I are having a nontraditional wedding party. We both have male and female friends so it seemed important to honour those relationships on our big day instead of trying to force ourselves to fit some sort of wedding party mode. Also, having people of different sexes on each side of the bridal party worked out kind of nicely in that there was no need to rank anyone (MOH over Bridesmaid) and everyone got his or her own special title. (For our rehearsal dinner, I’ve been joking about making them all name tags laden with ribbon and glitter . . . you know to boost the special.)
Anyway enough about craft supplies, on to who we picked!
On my side of things, standing up for me I have my Matron of Honour Erin (Hi Erin!) and my Man of Honour Greg.
Erin is my sister in law and an absolute sweetheart. She’s always been supportive of my relationship with Mr. Hummingbird and was a great help when we first started planning by helping me with my silly floundering bride questions and giving me planning advice. Plus, as an only child, it’s kind of cool to get to be going through this phase with a “sister,” even if it’s one through marriage.

“Add a memorable touch to your wedding with unique favors that match your theme.”
With the wedding right around the corner, packages are arriving almost daily (!) from our registry. It’s so much fun!
One of the most exciting ones was this beautiful, amazing, simply perfect espresso machine:
One of the reasons Mr. Peppermint was so excited (he really can’t get over it), is that it was one of those items we put on the registry on a whim. You know, the kind where you think, “yeah, right. No one is going to get this for us, but, hey, I can still dream!”.
Right after college, I worked a brief stint as a salon manager for a well-known Chicagoland salon & day spa chain. It was a miserable 6 months, but I befriended a stylist named Jodi, who did absolute wonders for special occasion hair. Fast forward 4 years to my engagement, and I went straight back to the salon in hopes of finding her still working there. Lucky me! She agreed to take a vacation day on the Saturday of my wedding, and did my hair, as well as the hair for my 5 bridesmaids and 1 reader. Unfortunately, I can’t share her information since she *technically* isn’t supposed to freelance outside the salon and she did that for me as a favor. Sorry, I knew there was some interest. ![]()
BUT, I will certainly share my makeup artist! Initially, I was 100% positive that I was going to do my own makeup. After all, I am a total product junkie and I wear makeup every single day. Not to mention, I loved having an excuse to buy more makeup! But one day in June, I stopped by the Bobbi Brown counter at Macy’s to pick up some gel eyeliner. Tasha, the makeup artist on duty sat me down for makeover (it was a slow Thursday night), and I was sold! It was me… just prettier!

Right after we got engaged, we decided that we wanted to incorporate our 2 cultures in our wedding favors, so the idea was to find some type of native Filipino wicker container and put authentic Spanish pastries or candy inside.

I save everything. I still have notes passed in class from junior high. Cards, letters, tickets to movies, plays, concerts, they are all tucked safely away. When I send out an invitation, I like for it to be special and personal and I hope that, like me, the person I am inviting will keep it as a reminder of what a lovely day they spent with me. Problem is, I don’t think that most people are like me. I think that most people keep a wedding invitation next to their calender to remind them of the event. Afterwards, well, I think it’s either tossed or used as a scratch pad or a coaster and then tossed. It kills me to think of these little works of art in the garbage bin. So, no matter how beautiful, I simply cannot justify the expense of expensive invitations.
Lucky for me, I get my collector’s gene from my mother. Mama Donut has her wedding invitation in a beautiful silver frame that resides on her dresser. It’s an ivory paneled card engraved with nuptial script. Simple. Elegant. Timeless. In my quest for the perfect invite, I’ve seen beautiful, amazing invitations, but whenever I think of a wedding invitation, my mama’s is always the first one that springs to mind. Simple. Elegant. Timeless. It’s what I keep coming back to, so it’s what I’m going with.

I love letterpress. Thermography, with its raised effect, is also very beautiful. And who can forget engraving? Swoon!
However, with 250 invitations that need to be printed and the extra pieces from our Korean and Chinese translations, having the invitations professionally printed wasn’t a financially viable option. At this point, every penny counts. Gocco was tempting, but hand-pressing more than 1,500 individual sheets of paper seemed too daunting with a full-time job.
And so Mr Peony and I decided to use (gasp!) our inkjet printer for our invitations. Luckily, we have a high-quality printer (the Canon PIXMA Pro9000) from a project I had done earlier in the year.
Though it’s been less than a month since The Bride’s Cafe first launched, it’s already one of my must read wedding blogs!
The talented woman behind it all is Richmond, VA based floral designer Janie Medley. In addition to a fabulous blog, Janie also has a gorgeous portfolio so don’t forget to check that out too! (PS - Miss Flamingo did her blog/logo design
)
Today Janie featured a stunning wedding photographed by the talented Jennifer Skog. I absolutely adore all the florals for this event! See more pics of the wedding day and the day after on Jennifer’s blog.
After going to my cousins’ wedding a year and a half ago, I knew it was important for me to have a family wedding photos display. This may sound silly, but it was really nice to have a sense of history informing the wedding. Additionally, it also was a nice thing for guests to view and talk about (especially if they didn’t know anyone!).So, months ago, I cross-stitched a simple sign:
… for logging onto the chat with all the other bees - now I feel horribly guilty that I’m not blogging regularly! That and everyone now knows I’m not dead/sick/lost all my fingers to a horrible case of gangrene… that I’m fully capable of writing and just haven’t. I just want you to know it’s not you, it’s me.
So where are my professional photos!? Um, well, behind me on our credenza, waiting, in a box and a book and not currently accessible on my computer. This is entirely due to our laziness on not picking up the cd with our photos. But I owe it to you, so here are some photos our friends and family look of me looking like an idiot… err, I mean, looking elegant in my korean hanbok.
If you’re wondering why my outfit is not the same as before, my mother decided on the night before to change my hanbok, so that midnight trial run actually meant nothing. The Korean ceremony took place immediately after the first ceremony, I didn’t have any time to say hello as my aunt and mother grabbed my arms violently and dragged me inside to change.
