The Calm Before The Storm

December 4th, 2007 @ 2:45 pm by Mrs. Peppermint

While many consider the Bachelorette party to be a raucous night of debauchery, I wanted something that would be relaxing and indulgent before the big day. So, without further ado, I present my bachelorette party…

We (my MOH/sister, 2 of my bridesmaids and I) started the day off bright and early–we wanted to have plenty of time to get to our first stop… the spa! We drove from my Hollywood apartment to Corona, home of the incredible Glen Ivy spa. The atmosphere was wonderful–calm, quiet and fun! During the peak summer season, the spa can have 1000 guests. Lucky for us, it was an overcast day so there were only about 50 people there. I did a number of treatments: massage, scrub, mani/pedi & waxing. I had been a little nervous about the waxing–I’ve never gotten it done and I was getting full leg and underarms. The technician was really nice and put me at ease. And, most importantly, I survived!

One of the best parts of the day was “Club Mud”. At Glen Ivy, they have a red clay mud “bath” that you can get in. Since it was cold, we opted to stay out of the “bath” and slather the mud on ourselves by hand. After you let it dry, you wash it all off to leave your skin refreshed!

Here we all are, at ease and rejuvenated…

On our way home, we passed by a kind of creepy fair. We stopped in search of junk food (churros, anyone?), but instead found some strange rides in the middle of nowhere.

When we got to my sister’s apartment, we needed to relax even more it seems (and it didn’t hurt that she just got a new tempur-pedic mattress!)

To complete our evening of indulgence, we had a sleepover complete with movies (Wedding Planner, Everyone Says I Love You), gossip, and s’mores!!

The next morning, breakfast was waiting for us (my sister woke up at the crack of dawn to make us waffles) and the party was over. It was such a great way to unwind before what promises to be an eventful week….

No way! As my cousin’s MOH, she requested a spa day at the same place. Glad to know the mud is recommended. If there’s anything else you can recommend, PM me. Thanks!

I love Glen Ivy! The mud was so much fun and I definately recommend going to the Grotto afterwards. The mud is supposed to exfoliate your skin and going to the Grotto is supposed to moisturize it. You take an elevator underground and some workers slather you in some sort of lotion and you just sit in a warm room and relax. Afterwards, you take a rainfall shower and get to eat fresh apples by a waterfall. You have to pay $40 extra for it, but it was definately worth it, and so relaxing.
