Butterflies

December 5th, 2007 @ 3:10 pm by Mrs. Donut

I don’t know what it is, but butterflies have a thing for me. Once, in Houston, Mr. Donut and I went to the Cockrell Butterfly Center at the Museum of Natural History. It’s a “…living exhibit that showcases hundreds of live butterflies in a naturalistic rainforest setting.” While sitting on a bench, a beautiful blue butterfly landed on my foot and, since you aren’t suppose to touch them, I let him rest there for a few minutes before trying to shake him off. He wouldn’t budge. No amount of shaking could encourage him to fly away. Finally after about 10 minutes I very lightly touched his feet and off he went.

Then, on a trip to the Summer Palace in Beijing last summer, one landed on my face - right between my eyes, long enough to take a picture before flying away.

So I was really very excited to see this the new issue of BLUEPRINT…

Perhaps for the church door?

That is amazing! I actually have a think with butterflies and my grandmother who passed away almost 5 years ago.

It would be a wonderful thing to integrate into your wedding — there is a lot you can do without going overboard. Butterfly shaped seed paper (http://tinyurl.com/2lee3v), maybe even a butterfly release after you “I do’s.” The best and safest company I found was Swallow Tail Farms - http://tinyurl.com/32ooo8.

Ours is ladybugs and my guy’s grandmother. I actually asked our photographer to find one at our wedding. Poor guy…I consider that my one bridezilla moment (even though I asked super nice).

angel — that’s funny! my BM actually found a monarch the morning of my bridal shower and included photos in my album she made for me. on our wedding day our photographer mentioned she’d seen one in the back yard of the inn — when my BM told her the story of my grandma she ran to tell her husband (second shooter) to go find it! all day i thought maybe my grandma wasn’t “there” but sure enough — she was and we have photographic proof!
