The Big Hostess Gift Decision

December 6th, 2007 @ 11:23 am by Mrs. Magnolia

Thanks so much to everyone who made suggestions about what to put in the bowls I purchased for our shower hostesses Saturday night! Ultimately, I decided to go with the holiday theme, and I filled the bowls with garlands, ornaments, and candy. They were a big hit with all four hostesses!

The empty bowl:

…and finished off with an initial ornament!

All ornaments, decorations, and candy were purchased at Target. When I added up the cost of the bowls + the filler, it came to right at $25/hostess, which I don’t think is too bad!

And now for a semi-related question… next week, my colleagues are throwing us a shower/luncheon. Only a few people from my office are invited to the wedding, because adding everyone (plus spouses) to our guest list would seriously make it out of control. It’s wonderful of them to still want to participate in something congratulating us, and we’re so grateful for that.

So, do I purchase a host/hostess gift for this party? If yes, I would get something for my boss — the “official” host — and also for our admin, who has done the bulk of the planning for the luncheon. My instinct says no to host gifts, but I’m just kind of torn. What do you guys think?

I don’t think that’s necessary. I would just send a very nice thank you card later!

I agree with maverika. I think a nice handwritten card will be very nice. To both your boss and the admin and anyone else you think went really out of their way.

Maybe a some homemade cookies afterwards- along with the note.
I’m always up for cookies….

Yay…something up my alley! I’ve arranged showers at my work and been the recipient of showers at my bosses house, so….

If the shower is at the office or at a restaraunt, then no. If it’s at a specific person’s home, then a host/hostess gift would be appropriate.

If you have one at work, send a thank you email to all involved or to those who gave (say purchased something off of your registry). A personal note doesn’t get passed around to everyone, but if you direct it to a specific person–the person who arranged it or did the grunt work (admin!), I bet they would appreciate it.

I would do something very small and maybe double it as a Christmas gift? But it would be so sweet of you to think of the admin as well since they never seem to get enough credit!

We recently had one for another girl getting married at our office. She sent out a thank you e-mail to the whole office since most of us contributed monetarily to gifts or brought food, but I doubt she gave a specific hostess gift to the two women who worked the most on it.

I’m with the other ladies who say a thank you card or homemade cookies at the most.

In my office we have showers for anyone getting married or having a baby - it’s partially for the person, partially a way for everyone in the office to hang out, since we’re all usually so busy during the day.
Now, I haven’t had mine yet, but we just had a baby shower and no hostess gifts were given. THe Mom to be gave everyone a hand written thank you card and sent an email to everyone. A few days later she brought in cookies and shared them with everyone as a thank you gift.

That’s what we do! Hope it helps!

Those bowls are very pretty! I would say ‘no’ since the party is being thrown in your honour, but I would definitely send a nice thank you note to both of them with some sort of little gift- maybe some cookies or something like that?

Hello,

We are using these same Damask Serving Bowls for our wedding, but we waited to long to buy them…. so we are now running around like crazy trying to find the ones that are left in the stores. We are still 7 short! I know this is a strange question, but would you be willing to sell us 7 of them? My email address is jessi.foster@comcast.net.

Thanks,
Jessi
