Wedding Brain

December 7th, 2007 @ 5:03 pm by Mrs. Magnolia

You guys have heard of Baby Brain, right? The way I understand it, it’s a condition that one may find oneself in while pregnant. Basically, you might become absentminded, spacey, and just generally out of it.

I think I’ve developed Wedding Brain. We’re five weeks out, and my head’s all over the place. I can’t focus – on wedding-related issues or otherwise, and it’s driving me (and Mr. Magnolia!) up the wall. (And no, I’m not pregnant… I’m sure of that!)

Yesterday afternoon I had a five minute conversation with our friend David about how he was hoping that I might puppy-sit for a few hours. This wasn’t a problem at all, so after work I ran over to his house to pick up the dog. I was a little distracted while I was there, because I was on the phone with my Maid of Honor, but I gathered Millie and her leash and had her tinkle before loading her into the car. Then I happily headed back toward my house, thinking about how we were going to run around in the backyard and play in the leaves. (I’m dying for a dog of my own, if you can’t tell…)

Halfway home, the dog started whining…. which was when I realized that I could not, for the life of me, remember if David had asked me to feed her or not. Seriously, I know that we talked for at least five minutes, but all I remember from our conversation was, “get Millie.”

I turned around to go back to his house and get Millie’s food and dish, simply because I figured it was better to do that then to let her go hungry for the evening. It turns out, David did forget to ask me to feed her (I don’t know what his excuse is!), but still - I could not believe how completely out of it I was!

Has anyone else noticed an increase in absent-minded behavior as they near their weddings? Because I need to know if this is going to get worse – I’ll have to start transcribing every conversation I have!

It might just stay the same, but yes…Wedding Brain is real, and you’re lucky it didn’t hit you sooner!

You’re just going to have to work a bit harder to stay focused for the next few weeks, is all. And if something slips and you make a mistake that others are aware of, you have a very good excuse for it, just remember that.

You’re almost there! So exciting!

Yes. Absolutely. I forget everything. All the time. Wedding-related and not. It’s like there’s too much going on there.

Will it got away when I go on my honeymoon? Or will it stay during thanks you notes and photo album design? Help!

I’m exactly four weeks out as of yesterday, so I completely relate! Today I had to drive somewhere I go quite often and I took the wrong freeway. It only took me about five minutes out of the way, but what the heck? I’ve only lived here my entire life.

Well if you ever want some puppy time, I’m more than willing to let people take mine to the dog park. Lord knows I don’t have enough hands to pet them all the time.

I forgot my PIN. A PIN which I have had for YEARS. And I’m getting married in 8 months. I totally empathize and appreciate any prayers.
