A Little Shoe Help

December 10th, 2007 @ 3:40 pm by Ms. Dahlia

Thanks to all of the feedback on Friday’s post- I did wear my shoes on Friday, and they looked fabulous. (For those that have been following along, I did not wear stockings, and I discovered that I have red nail polish that matches the shoes perfectly, so my toes looked very pretty.)

Given the narrow heel problem that I have, I picked up a pair of these heel liners from Target.

They worked fairly well- my heel did not come out of the shoe at all, and I found the gel cushioning comfortable. Way more comfortable than heel liners that I’d picked up from Payless.

Given the packaging, and how the Kiwi heel liners stuck to the shoe, I thought that I would be able to reuse them in variety of different shoes. Turns out that isn’t the case. So be warned: if you do get these heel liners, plan on keeping them in the shoes.

There are a couple of things about my shoes, though, that I learned (and would not have learned if I hadn’t worn them). First, I am not used to walking in 3″ heels, and while I can do it, I definitely need to practice. Given their height, though, they are pretty comfortable, with decent arch support. And they did not rub or pinch in any uncomfortable way at all, which is a very good thing.

Second issue is my feet have a tendency to slip forward in the shoe. I know there have got to be solutions out there for this, like these:

My only question is how well do these work? Is there another product that works better? What do you recommend to keep your feet from sliding? (I hate to spend money (even $2) on something that isn’t going to work.)

I think there are thin gels from that same Kiwi brand that keep your feet from sliding but I haven’t used them yet.

Foot petals work great, they’re worth every penny. I have small feet that are always sliding into shoes too far, so I’m definitely a bit of an expert in the area of insoles!! Insolia is another brand that works really well. If you’re near a department store, you can always ask the sales people in the shoe department to give you an insole as well- they typically have the classic half insoles (they’re kind of triangular and nude colored) and are always willing to give you a pair if you tell them you’re having trouble with fit.

I wore foot pedals in my shoes and holy cow did they make a difference! I even added them to my girls gift bags so they could use them and they loved them!

If it wasn’t for the foot pedals I guarantee I would have thrown off my shoes within 1 hour! My feet stayed exactly where they should have been and my balls of my feet felt great!

I know tons of people rave about foot petals, but when I tried them in my wedding shoes the front “petal” that is supposed to keep your toes from sliding took up too much room and there wasn’t enough room for my toes to fit in the shoe. They would have been a mangled mess if I wore them like that.

Since then, I’ve used Insola inserts and they’ve helped a lot.

I swear by foot petals and doctor scholl’s inserts! I am a size 5, which is either usually sold out or not made in that size, so I tend to buy shoes in a bigger size and I always have to use some kind of inserts. Big thumbs up to foot petals for keeping your feet sliding. Doctor scholl’s inserts (the black gel ones) are great for making a size too big shoe fit!

Oh and Nordstrom always give free inserts if you ask. They aren’t the greatest quality, but do the job.

I have small feet (6) with narrow ankles and wide toes. Strappy shoes, while adorable, are my enemy. I’ve tried the foot pedals and they aren’t that great. There are similar products made of clear gel that keep your feet exactly in place AND give you tons of cushioning. They are also very thin so they don’t drastically affect the fit of your shoes and the gel holds them in place, so you can easily move them from shoe to shoe. Dr Scholls For Her makes them, although I’ve tried more than one brand and been happy with all of them. Good luck!

I think foot petals comes with a satisfaction guarantee - so maybe give them a shot and if they don’t work, get your money back?
I tried those kiwi things last year and I couldn’t even get them off the strip. I’ve been using the ugly heel backings from CVS that are $2 instead, even though they are ugly because I couldn’t get the kiwis to work. Kudos on your success!
