Ever since my study abroad program in Florence during my junior year in college, I knew I had to go back for my honeymoon! I seriously thought Italy was the most fascinating place– and also the most romantic! Mr. Caramel really wanted to relax on our trip and not get too caught up on sightseeing, so we settled on Venice with a 1 day trip to Rome. We thought Venice would be a relaxing place to stay since it’s pretty small.
*Eats & Hotel Commentaries from me!
VENICE: The next best part of our time in Venice was our wonderful hotel room! The Hotel Antiche Figure was where we spent most of our time. It cost about $230 a night, which is pricey, but totally worth it. The view is right on the canal, the service is AMAZING, and they provide free internet (great for posting pictures and then clearing your camera) and also free outlet converters! They were great about waking us up, giving us maps and explaining every detail of where to go and how to get there. Also, their free breakfast is pretty decent and saved us a lot of money. They provide free muffins, crossaints, jams, nutella (of course), cereal, coffee and fruit. They are also located directly across the bridge that is in front of the bus station, so the location is great!
I really recommend shelling out the big bucks for your hotel room. It’s your one and only honeymoon and you’re probably so exhausted from the wedding - you should relax and go full out. We never regretted on spending too much on our rooms - it was the highlight of the trip! (When else would you go nuts on a crazy hotel room??)
They also have the cleanest bathrooms I’ve ever seen in Italy. I took pictures because I was amazed!
Woohoo for Western toliets!

ROME: La Lanterne Restaurant

Not only was this place the best meal of our trip, but it had the best dessert! The dessert description said “chocolate warm heart” and we had no idea what that meant. Our waitress tried to explain it to us and I said “Oh, is it like a brownie?” And she gave me this crazy look and said “…. brownie?” I guess they don’t know what that means over there.
Anyway, it turned out to be like a dark chocolate souffle with oozing fudge in the middle. It was GREAT. I wanted to order another one but we decided that it was better left wanting more and not being overstuffed. We took a picture of it, because it was so cute!

They are also steps away from the famous De Treve Fountain. You’re supposed to make a wish and toss a penny over your shoulder. It’s gorgeous and so romantic there!

ROME: Our hotel in ROME cost a whopping 315 euros for one night, but it was pretty disappointing in comparison to our Venice hotel. It was strange because they are a 4 star hotel, but I don’t know if those star ratings are very accurate. We stayed at the Marcella Royal since it was recommended by someone and Prez Clinton stayed there, but overall, their service was not too impressive. They kept ignoring us when we asked for an outlet converter and then finally said they just didn’t have one. (We found one in our room later?) Their bathrooms weren’t as nice and their location wasn’t really close to any of our planned activities.
Here’s the best picture I had for the Marcella Royal hotel. I would have to say that their entrance and doorway was more impressive than their rooms!
