Mrs. Milkshake, Seattle/Vancouver, BC Age and Occupation: 23, Pharmacist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Pharmacist Engagement Date: May 2007 Wedding Date: August 2008 Blogging Since: December 6, 2007 Venue: Victorian Mansion About Me: Despite the fact that I’ve invested many long years of my life studying the sciences in college, I’m glad to be out of there and I would never do it again! I’m super artsy at heart - I run an indie craft site, I grew up shooting and developing my own film, doing jazz and ballet, and the whole gamut of art classes. I’ve been called a Jane of all Trades… but I was also told many years ago not to make my passion my career because it’d suck the fun out of it. Hence my choice of day job. We live in Seattle but are having our wedding in Canada to be fair to all our family and friends.

Hatley Castle

Wedding photo courtesy of Blue Olive Photography, based out of Vancouver, BC.

I found this castle long after I had already booked my venue. Hatley Castle is about 25 minutes from Victoria, BC (which is on Vancouver Island). Apparently it was Lex Luthor’s home on Smallville, and Jean Luc Picard’s school in one of the Xmen movies (I realize that’s not his name in real life or in the movie, but I’m just glad I didn’t call him Spock.) The ivy looks gloriously green and lush, and I even saw a photo where all the foliage was a rich red color, but I can imagine that this place would look pretty cold and unwelcoming in the winter months (unless of course it was snowing, which, as most people in the northwest will know is pretty rare… people in Seattle seem to think that Vancouver gets a lot of snow, but it’s entirely untrue! And, people in Canada don’t live in igloos. I was asked that once as a child.).

Great castle!
But honestly - I am glad to hear that even canadians get strange question, not only us europeans (”Does your mum cook on open fire?”) ;)))

Lol Busylizzy. I am from Vancouver and I used to work at a cruise ship terminal here, and most of the cruise passengers were Americans. I once had one of them ask me, “we’re here in Vancouver overnight before flying home tomorrow. Do we have time to see Toronto?”

Well, yes, if you can walk the distance from Seattle to New York in a day, you should be good to get from Vancouver to Toronto.

I’m in the Seattle area and the couple times I’ve been “up north” it has been exactly like…Seattle! Although when I went on the mountain outside Vancouver it was snowy. ;-)

That place is spectacular! So many photo ops around the castle!

My parents live in Victoria (also where I was born), so we looked into having our wedding in Victoria instead of Ohio where we live. I found Hatley Castle online while we were researching venues in Victoria. I feel in love immediately! I really wish it wouldn’t have been such an inconvience for the rest of our family and our friends to get to Victoria for our wedding.
