Glassware Extraordinaire

December 14th, 2007 @ 3:11 pm by Mrs. Robin

I will admit something to you all… I don’t really get excited about flowers.

That isn’t completely accurate. I think flowers are pretty and lovely. But I am only really attracted to strange looking ones. I love lime green flowers like Bells of Ireland. I like it when Mr. Robin gets those for me because I know he really thought about what I love.

But the truth is, I just can’t see paying hundred of dollars for them for the wedding. I am mostly ambivalent about my bouquet and the other floral elements.

That is why I didn’t think that I could do flowers for the centerpieces during the reception. It just wouldn’t be me. But one thing I do love is early and mid-century glassware, so my idea was a mix of glassware in blues, greens and browns. Then, I began to worry I wouldn’t have time to gather that much glassware, so I bought 33 clear vases from Ikea with the intent to fill them will colored water and floating candles.

Well, they are going back! I just couldn’t seem to ignore all the amazing finds out there lurking in discount shops and thrift stores. I love the idea of hundreds and hundreds of candles shining through colored glass.

So my MIL has been helping me gather tons of vintage pitchers and decanters and cordial glasses! Now the only decision is shall all the glass on each table be the same color, or should each table be a mixture of colors?

All one color

The Blues, Greens, Ambers all together

What do you think?

And, by the way, I love the idea. My reception will be in a barn in Ocotber, so I will probably use it!

I like a mix of colors on each table, but I think the colors in the mix need to be pretty close and complimentary to each other. I’d spread them out, organized into a spectrum and grab about 3 shades that were similar. Hope that makes some kind of sense.

I really love the colors together. I myself have also been looking at all the local shops for vintage dishware in amber and green to use for our to cookie buffet. I am local you should let me know if you have any left. Your wedding sounds perfect.

I love this. I was actually thinking about doing it myself, but when I started to do some math, it got pricier than flowers for me. :( I think the mixed colors looks great!

I don’t really like flowers either so this is a great idea. I vote all one color on each table, but I like monochromatic things.

mix it up. it’ll be a good contrast of colors and liven the tablespace.

I like the colors grouped together, one color for each table.

SO Gorgeous, and you’ll have wonderful keepsakes from your wedding forever! Flowers are so over rated! I cant decide which I like more, the groups or a mix, but the example with the grouping of one color is really beautiful.

Love this idea, Miss Robin! I’m actually working on something very similar, which I’ll share with readers soon :-)…. Mr. Cupcake and I are always obsessed with cool glassware, so it seems like the perfect centerpiece option for us. How many pieces will you put on each table?

Miss Robin says:

I am going to work that out Sunday afternoon and seperate them into tubs, Cupcake. But I have 16 tables and I think about 200 varying sized pieces. So 10-12 pieces I think.
