I Heart Ikea

December 14th, 2007 @ 1:21 pm by Mrs. Cupcake

A few months ago I helped to host a bridal shower for my future cousin-in-law (Mr. Cupcake’s cousin’s fiancee… got that??). I was put in charge of the favors, so I went to Ikea — one of my favorite places to just wander and imagine all the possibilities — and got these cute little jars that are like miniature versions of old school candy shop jars. For 36 jars, I paid about $28. They can sit upright or tilted on their side. I bought a slew of lavender satin ribbon from papermart.com to wrap around the lids, designed little labels with the happy couple’s names and wedding date, and filled them with mini pastel mints.

Voila! They were a big hit with guests of all ages. Cute, no?

Adorable!

Do you think the jars are big enough to fit several big pieces of candy? I’m talking salt water taffy, Ferrero Rocher balls, Lindt truffles, etc. Before I run to IKEA I wanted to see what you think. Can the jars fit 6 or so of those?

Hehe, thanks Mrs. Kiwi — that’s not pervy at all! Wow, Snow White…. you bees are gonna give me a big head!

Pei - I think you could fit a small handful of salt water taffy in these, no problem…. Ferrero Rocher balls or Lindt truffles, I’m not 100% sure since they’re a bit larger, I believe. They come in packs of 3 or 4 (I think?) so you could always buy one pack to test out first!

Joyce, unfortunately those jars aren’t on the Ikea website at the moment, and I got rid of the packaging that had the name :-( They come in 4-packs (I believe…. might be 3-pack, but definitely not more than 4). Sorry I’m being sort of vague… when I bought them I wasn’t a bee yet and didn’t have the intention of writing about them :-) Let us know if you do find them, and what they’re called!!

thank you so much Miss Cupcake! I was at WinCo (yes, the bulk food haven grocery store super discount chain) in NorCal today and saw those mints you put into the jars for less than $3 a pound! thanks for the inspiration all the same, yeah, i look through the Ikea catalogue and didn’t see it, bummers, but will definitely go find them asap as they might go away and then i’ll be out of luck!

Hi Miss Cupcake,
I saw pictures from your wedding, and now I find myself going through everything you have posted :)

I think this jars make perfect wedding favors, so I thought on filling some missing info for future brides. . .
I found them in IKEA (the name is RAJTAN), come in 4-pack at $3, and you can put 5 oz of your preferred candy!
