The Perfect Present

December 17th, 2007 @ 5:17 pm by Mrs. Hummingbird

present

With Christmas just a little over a week away, I have to admit, I’m getting a little antsy. Not for break (although my company is nice enough to give us the week off) but to give Mr. Hummingbird his presents. Every year since our first year together, I get really excited about picking stuff out for him and seeing the look on his face when he opens it. Sometimes, I’ll admit, I get carried away. Our first Christmas together, I bought him six presents, including one that I gave him almost a month early because I couldn’t wait (which was, for the record, a Buddy Christ figurine since he loves the movie Dogma), but this year, we significantly scaled down with our new apartment and with the wedding coming up.

On one hand, this makes little present crazy me sad because there are things that, if I had the money, I would have bought for Mr. Hummingbird in a second (last time we were in the R.O.M., he was eyeing a bunch of historical replicas which I know he would love), but on the other hand, I fully understand the importance of putting things off and waiting until the majority of our wedding costs are paid for.

It’s a tighter Christmas than we’re used to, but I’m really excited to be able to spend it together and to think how, next Christmas, I’ll be married to such an awesome guy. :)

How about the rest of you ladies? Have you toned down your Christmas celebrations now that you’re engaged or married?

(P.S. I’m hosting the video chat tonight at 8 pm, so stop by and say hello!)

I’m like you. I love picking out gifts - even little things - that I know someone will love. Not just my husband - I enjoy this for all my gift giving throughout the year!!

My hubby and I don’t tend to be big into the gift giving for any occasion - that’s usually because we’re saving all our money to travel! I think that will continue throughout our marriage.

That being said, this is our 1st married Christmas and I think I’ve gone a little overboard! Which he knows - and now he’s disappointed and feels guilty since he didn’t think we were exchanging gifts - which was not a conversation that officially happened. I don’t care though! THE JOY IS IN THE GIVING :) I can’t wait to see his face!

FI tends to go nuts when getting me gifts, so I put a $150 cap on Xmas this year. We’ve got too many expenses coming up with the wedding, honeymoon, new condo, new furniture, etc. Of course, I went and blew it, and I’ll probably be spending close to $200 on him. Oh well, better luck next year :-)

We have definitely scaled back Christmas and gifts in general… life is expensive!

We used to spend a decent chunk of change on each other, but we have to remodel our bathroom (we have serious leaks and haven’t had a ceiling for about a month!) so we set a spending limit of $100 this Christmas… oh, and I’m getting a new bathtub and he’s getting tile for Christmas… whether we wanted it or not. ;)

lol…budget for this Christmas is $0.

We went long distance 3 months ago and our gift to each other is to spend time together. We’ve booked a Hilton the days following Christmas and plan to just relax and hang out.

other than the cost of the room, which i plan to split with him, we aren’t doing anything else gift wise for Christmas.

(he did buy me a laptop in Septemeber and called it an early Christmas present…..i nearly forgot about that!)

I found the perfect thing for him for Christmas, and it’s way out of the budget, but he’s getting it anyway…and nothing for his January birthday.
