Fitness Update

December 18th, 2007 @ 12:07 pm by Mrs. Snow Pea

I am proud to say I have met my goal and have now lost a total of 20 lbs! I was afraid I gained it back with the holidays and late night cram sessions, so I finally sucked it up (or in) and stepped on the scale. At first I thought the scale was wrong. I yelled out to my Matron of Honor, “Is your scale freakin’ broken?!!” To which she replied, “I hope not because I think I am 145 and I am sticking with that!”  ;)

What’s been working for me:

  1. Like last time, I finally learned portion control and stopping when I know I am clearly full. This is the most important step in my opinion. Even when I pig out now, it’s not nearly as much in quantity of food as before.
  2. I treat the holidays and holiday parties like any other day. I eat if I am hungry during the day. I eat before I go to a party. I avoid creamy dips and unnecessary calories like wine coolers.
  3. We’ve stopped eating out. At first it was simply because we were saving for the wedding, but then we realized how much crap we were eating out and how much we were spending on it.
  4. Also, the portions were way too big. I used to order soup, salad, appetizer and an entree. If we go out now, I just pick 1 or 2 of those things and I am full! I knew I was full back then, but would feel obligated to keep eating because it’s such a large portion. So I just order less now and eat slowly.

What are your fitness goals for next year? How do you manage the multiple holiday family dinners?

congrats! that’s a much easier and healthier way to diet. i’d be proud myself.

i feel you on the large portions too…when i go out i almost always cut whatever it is i’m having in half and only eat one side and save the rest for later and i’m always full before i finish my half.

Congratulations!!! That’s a really awesome achievement and you should be so proud of yourself.

I put on about 20 lbs in law school that I’m trying to shed and the same things have worked for me so far: less eating out, paying attention to my body, and when I’m full, and portion control. I also totally cut our soda which helped a lot. And exercise! I used to be so lazy, but I’ve made daily exercise a mandatory part of my routine. And I really enjoy it.

You lucky Snow Pea! =) Thats so awesome… I have put on 5 lbs or so since the wedding, and the holidays are NOT helping. I decided I’ll worry about it in January… haha so bad!

Congrats!!

My biggest success so far has been with portion control and stopping when I’m full. I always do what tea does when eating out, and bonus is I don’t have to cook dinner or make lunch the next day! I’d like to go to the gym more, but old ballet injuries are keeping the progress slow. But I love my workout ball! I always workout before I eat so my muscles in my stomach feel tight and motivates me to stick to healthier eating options.

That is so great! And you look great too! I just try to work out 3 to 4 times a week. And no fast food. Its hard because I love french fries but now I will just make them at home in the oven rather than fried in oil.

Congrats, snow pea!
I cut out the half and half from my daily coffee and use skim instead. I also am a naturally slow eater, but I find that when I eat with friends, I’m even slower because I’m gabbing - it makes me eat a ton less!

Congrats! I love to eat out so to help with the portions, I ask the waiter to hold any sides that I don’t care for so that way it never gets on my plate. I tend to eat it if it’s there.

Wow Snow Pea! What a great accomplishment, and it is always nice to hear of people who successfully lost weight by cutting calories and living a sensible lifestyle. I despise fad diets and I feel sorry whenever people lose weight using them because the majority of the time the weight is eventually gained back again. I have lost 30 lbs and counting through calories counting, and it makes me feel so good.

If anyone is looking for a great way to cut some calories, try Fitday. You can even use the program online for FREE! Although I did buy the program for use on my computer and think that it is completely worth it.
