What Would You Do For Love?

Man Carves Wife a 6,000 Stair Path in Mountain

What Would You Do For Love? : wedding 252

Mr. Onion came across an amazing, almost unbelievable love story from China. Over 50 years ago, Liu, a 19 year-old boy, fell in love with a 29 year-old widowed mother named Xu. At the time, it was unacceptable and immoral for a young man to love an older woman. The couple ran off to live and love each other in peace for over half century.

Liu spent the next 50 years carving, by hand, over 6,000 steps so his wife could get down the mountain more easily. Sadly, Liu recently passed away, but the story has touched so many lives that the local government has decided to preserve the “love ladder” and the place they lived as a museum, so this love story can live forever.

This is an extraordinary story, but have you or your significant other ever done anything amazing for each other just to make the other’s life easier or happier? What sacrifices have you made for each other? Maybe moved so the other could pursue a degree or a job?

That’s a wonderful story. Mr. Jasmine and I have both made a lot of sacrifices to be with each other, but they were completely worth it :)

i moved from southern california to central oregon because my husband was offered what is essentially his dream job. it meant that i wouldn’t be able to go to grad school at pepperdine, but hey, it’s worth it knowing that he’s doing what he loves and knows. grad school at pepperdine might not ever happen for me, but let’s be real, it’s not like quality schools are particularly hard to find!
