Ballot Box: Sweeney’s Invitations

December 20th, 2007 @ 8:23 am by Ballot Box

Sweeney2Be needs our help with her DIY invitations!  On the left is a hand-embossed rendition, but because that was so time consuming, she also made a photoshop version as seen on the right.

Which invitation do you like better?

I like the right one because the image uses a little more of the white space and also, it really carries your eyes all the way own to the insert cards, just a better flow from it down to the others. Since it does this Ido’nt think you really need to add the flourish to the inserts as well.
Great design though, I really like it!

Hey!
Even though the embossed version is great, I like the photoshop version very much, but maybe she could align the text on the left as well, I find that very nice and elegant…

i like the text alignment to the right on the first one and the size of your names just makes the entire card feel lighter if that makes sense, but i see you dont have room for that on the 2nd one due to the design. i also like the & symbol on the first, but definitely agree that you could do it in photoshop and save alot of time. tough choice but both are amazing!

I like both but I think that the photoshop one is more balanced. The only thing I did not like is the way the names are not capitalized. I think that the capitalization draws the eye more.

oh boy I mean aligned on the right, of course:)

I like the one on the left! Your names pop more and the ampersand is so nice and kind of looks like the scroll pattern and balances out the piece!

I like the photoshop but like the fonts on the embossed one better

I like the one on the right but also love elements of the one you did on the left.

so, perhaps blend certain elements of the left one into the right one?

like i love the right justification, and the font.

Also, i would make the font of your names on the 2nd one a tad bigger.

either way, you will churn out some lovely invites. GL! ;)

I much prefer the right-justified version, because of the layout and the relative sizes of the fonts. The flourishes look fine on both, though I think the embossed one is more whimsical looking.

I like them both - awesome job! I prefer the one on the right, with the same thought about the right justification and capitalized names. Though you can’t really tell the one on the left is printed differently in the picture - you lose the “feel” element of the embossing in a picture. Either way, I think all your guests will be thrilled to receive your invite!

Thanks everyone! The fonts and such are not final yet, I’m still playing with those! In that right side one I didn’t capitalize because the A’s are very pointy and doesn’t flow with the rest of the font.

I’m also thinking possibly Gocco for the invites?? But still feeling out that one with FH and the budget monster :-)

Thanks again everyone!

I voted for the photoshop one because, as newly married, it turns out to be pretty important to not make yourself or your FI crazy before the wedding!

I like the right justified text, but I like the photoshop image. Of course I would go for what’s easier and it just happens to be that it looks nicer!

I like the swirls on the second one, but I like how your names pop out on the first one.

I love the second one! Can I ask where you got the graphics??

Jen I got the Flourishes on DesingerDigitals.com It was pure luck I found what I was looking for right away.

I loved the flourish so much on the first invite that I had to find something similar. They were inexpensive, $3.50 for each set and I bought 2 sets of 5-7 I believe. There are 2-3 different fourishes in that design. I layered them.

I agree with styleish. Love the swirls on the second one but I like right justified text and that your names stand out on the first one. =) Great job!

Pretty pretty! I like the right one a wee bit more because the flourish doesn’t seem so out there since there’s more than one as compared to the left one! They are both beautiful though and I wish I was as far along with my invites as you are!

I can’t see it on this one, but on one of your invite designs it looks like third is spelled wrong (thrid) - just want to make sure you don’t print like that. Also, Gocco is probably only worth it if you plan to use it for a lot of projects - if it’s just the invites, it’s not really worth the cost. Hope that helps.

Dang, I’m in the minority. I like the left one better because the names pop out more and it does a better job of drawing my attention than the one on the right does. That’s just me, though.

Jennifer - like I said before the fonts arn’t actually being used - I’m just checking the design. I was just using different fonts for the mock up to see what I liked better. :-)

Oh honey, save yourself the hassle! I voted for the second. They’re both beautiful, and convey the same look.

I’m painstakenly making my save-the-dates right now, and if I had found an easier way to do them, I’d be doing that right now! I’m so looking forward to passing on the big ol’ invite to someone else to make massive quantities FOR me. :)

Good for you for DIY! I think what you have is a great!

Both look fantastic, so I would certainly go for the photoshopped one since it is easier!

The photoshop invite’s flourish is so elegant, smooth and clean looking- the embossed flourish almost looks cartoon-y next to it. also i think the printed one has more depth due to the shades of black & line weights which makes up for the fact it’s flat. and the fact that it will be easier is an awesome bonus!
