About Ms. Dahlia

Awhile back, Mrs. Ant did a phenomenal series of posts about the process of designing and getting professional photobooks yourself. In my internet exploration this morning, I came across a professional photographer who basically acts as a middleman for you so that you can order the various albums that are typically only available to professional photographers.

Albums like these:

Jorgenson Albums

Zookbinder

Graphistudio

Who is this mysterious photographer? Rick Taylor. The Albumart homepage, while not necessarily designed in the most user friendly way, has most of the pricing information about all of the various albums available.

Since our photographer doesn’t really do photo albums, we’ve been planning on doing our own at some point after the wedding. What are you planning on doing (or did you do) about a photo album?

I looked into Rick Taylor at Albumart for a while, but the albums still looked pretty darned expensive. Not as bad as from a photographer, but still expensive. I ended up going a slightly different route for my flushmount– I went to http://www.candid2000.com and got mine for much cheaper. They’re not quite as high quality as Zookbinders or Graphi, but I’m really, really happy with it. More thorough review in the Beehive!

thank you SO much for this information. Our photog doesn’t do parent albums so this will really help.

I intend to create our own albums via one of the album companies. I just can’t see a photographer pulling together exactly what I want. Then in the end if I am unhappy with any placements or thing it will all be on me and not them.

My photos Keith Berry of BerryPhotos will do the same thing with GraphiStudio albums, and he’s affordable. Most of the photogs that use GraphiStudios have actually hiked the prices up so much on the albums, it’s crazy! Keith has the prices right on his site. My co-worker is actually ordering parents albums though him, because her photog wanted $250 for one, and Keith is getting her 2 for that price.

We upgraded to a Zoobinder’s (the flat one) - guess we better start working on that soon…

My mom did work with our photog for her album, 25-30 pics for around $250. I think it’s a yearbook-style album one level or so lower than Zoobinders.

The prices for the old-fashioned leather album through a photog for even a parent size was upwards to $500 - way to much for our wallets. She didn’t want to wait until we received our high-res pics next October (I offered to help her create an album then for lower price) - so she forked over the extra cash now.

I spent $40-something on a smallish album through kodakgallery, and scrapbooked the rest. That fits our style and the style of the event better than a super-formal book.

Thanks for the info! We’re not doing an album through our photographer. We have the option, but she does photobook/flush mount style albums, and while they are great for more casual events, we want a matted album for our wedding pictures since we think they are much more formal. I’ve been hoping to find someone to help through the design process at some point later on when have the money to spend — paying off the medical school loans should probably come before album design. :)
