I’m super artsy at heart - I run an indie craft site, I grew up shooting and developing my own film, doing jazz and ballet, and the whole gamut of art classes. I’ve been called a Jane of all Trades… but I was also told many years ago not to make my passion my career because it’d suck the fun out of it. Hence my choice of day job. We live in Seattle but are having our wedding in Canada to be fair to all our family and friends.

Tim Willoughby And The Art of Photoshop

Tim Willoughby And The Art of Photoshop : wedding photography vancouver 2097247 timwills3

Tim Willoughby is a handsome photographer hailing from South Carolina. I used to say that I really didn’t care for photoshop, and with the exception of a few inappropriate light flares and other random effects. I think Tim’s post-processing is the best I’ve seen, especially when applied to unexpected images like prep shots.

Gocco Lost, Gocco Found…

December 27th, 2007 @ 5:19 pm by Mrs. Tulip

It’s here! It’s here! After many months of waiting (more on THAT below), I finally have a new Gocco in hand!

Gocco Lost, Gocco Found... : wedding crafts gocco Imgp108 Imgp1089

I have wanted one of these babies since reading about them in the very first issue of Craft magazine. At the time, though, the company had stopped making Goccos, and even if you picked up a used version there was no guarantee of future supplies. I’ve already seen the supply chain cut off for one of my hobbies, and the resulting feeding frenzy was a pricey nightmare. Plus, the expense was hard to justify for just a hobby….

Breakfast At Tiffany’s

December 27th, 2007 @ 11:40 am by Mrs. Flamingo

We all know or have heard of the famous “Today Show Throws a Martha Stewart Wedding” contest. On October 5, 2007, Cody Helgeson, 22, and Jessica Mapel, 23, winners of the contest, wed before millions of TV viewers in a lavish event planned by the Today Show, Martha Stewart, and a team of Martha Stewart Weddings’ editors.

I’m completely in love with the whole event, the details, the colors… simply everything, so I thought I would highlight the oh-so fabulous wedding featured in this winter’s Martha Stewart Weddings magazine.

Getting Down

December 26th, 2007 @ 2:37 pm by Mrs. Robin

We need to have control of the music. That was decided from the beginning. I have just heard too many stories from couples who made detailed lists, provided songs, and then heard none or little of what they wanted. Add to that the fact that a great many of our dates were to concerts and shows, and we needed to rock the iPod wedding. So a friend of Mr. Robin will provide ceremony music with her guitar, and then when the reception rolls around we will have an iPod full of all the songs we love.

However, we have an issue… What song are we going to dance to for the first dance?! We have it down to two, which you can listen to thanks to YouTube:Getting Down : wedding dance music portland Bright

Do Graphic Designers Harbor A Big Secret?

December 26th, 2007 @ 12:03 pm by Mrs. Milkshake

Now that Christmas is finally over and my FSIL (omg I’m using an abbv. that up until a few weeks ago I had no clue what it meant) got her gift, I can post about letterpress on weddingbee. I spent one weekend this december at a craft fair next to a lovely gal selling these beautiful letterpressed calendars by ilee. I came home with two and Mr. Milkshake was so impressed with them that the two thousand some odd dollars I had estimated for letterpressed invitations was suddenly okay with him.

This year, 47 past and present weddingbees participated in a Secret Santa exchange!  Confession: I’m actually sending out my Secret Santa gift tomorrow!  But it was a ginormous diy project, so hopefully my Secret Santa will forgive me when she sees what it is. ;-)

With a budget of only $20, here’s a peek at some of the wonderfully creative gifts the bees sent!

I Heat NYC: Where I Went, What I Bought

December 25th, 2007 @ 12:49 pm by Mrs. Peacock

I arrived on Friday, but Monday was my wedding day on the town! My first stop was at Tinsel Trading in midtown. There were a million, billion sources of inspiration in there. It reminded me of Anthropologie in that I wanted to just move in.

I Heat NYC: Where I Went, What I Bought : wedding Dsc0194I also wandered over to the Store Across the Street, which is owned by Tinsel Trading and is… across the street. The walls were covered with spools of ribbon. There was a selection of Martha’s craft line, which I have really been enjoying. I think Michaels has a better selection, but I am guessing that there aren’t any Michaels in Manhattan. They had the newest copy of Martha Stewart Weddings on the cutting table, but I forced myself to leave it alone since my copy was waiting at home for me.

A Picture Is Worth…

December 24th, 2007 @ 10:44 am by Mrs. Cupcake

I’ll be completely honest: my hunt for a wedding photographer began a few months before we were even engaged! My best friend/MatOH had gotten married several months earlier, and the wedding bug had bit me a little tiny smidgen of a bit since helping with some of her details. I’m really into photography, so I thought doing a little research before Mr. Cupcake popped the question wasn’t such a bad thing (since we had gone ring shopping once and I knew it was coming… eventually!). No harm done, right? Right??

I did some sleuthing on theknot.com and throughout other wedding resources, compiling a list of some of my favorites. Unfortunately, a lot of those favorites were very high-priced, and although I was only planning my fantasy wedding at this time, I knew that I couldn’t get my heart set on any of these shutterbugs because I’d be setting myself up for disappointment when it was time to plan the real thing.

Then, one day, I happened upon the website of The Wiebners, a husband and wife team based out of Lancaster, PA. Their work can’t be categorized as any one particular style — it is a combination of photojournalistic, artsy, whimsical, and just plain fantastic. I was drawn to their raw, fresh style; not a lot of feathery images, nothing too lovey-dovey or too contrived. Their photos were simply of real people with real emotions, photographed in an incredible way. I was also drawn to the fact that even their posed shots had a somewhat candid quality to them. And, their starting prices didn’t make me gag with disgust. Score!
