It’s 2008! Yayyyyyyy! (cue me, shrieking with delight and excitement). This is the year I’m getting married (and many of you are getting married as well!). It’s a very exciting year for all of us and I have high hopes for what lies ahead.
Of course, a new year means new year’s resolutions. I know a lot of people hate resolutions, but I think they can be really inspirational. I love the idea of second chances and starting anew. I have a number of new year’s resolutions and a few of them are wedding related:
(1) Be Money Mindful
What is it about weddings that makes a girl want to bust out the American Express card and happily exclaim, “Charge it!” When you have the (hopefully) once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of a wedding, it’s hard to resist the urge to splash out. This is especially true if you’re an avid reader of wedding blogs and magazines — the ideas (and temptations!) are endless. I know it’s definitely been hard to rein myself in.
But I’m vowing not go broke on the wedding. That includes trying to limit the wedding magazines/books that I buy, not giving in to additional extravagances that will strain our budget, and planning a honeymoon that is well within our financial resources. Nothing will put a strain on a new marriage faster than overwhelming credit card bills and insurmountable debt.
(2) Be Nice to My Body
Enough with the mean, unnecessary commentary about my body! When you think about wearing the dress of your dreams in front of 200 of your friends and family, it’s hard to resist the pressure to look perfect. But I want to remember that Mr. Jasmine fell in love with me the way I am and that I have to be be proud, content, and happy with my body on my wedding day.
But I also want to be kinder to my body health-wise. I want to commit myself to being even more health-conscious by eating more unprocessed foods, increasing my intake of fruits and veggies, and continuing to exercise regularly. Hopefully these changes will mean an even happier body.
(3) Be Light-Hearted
With all the stress, anxiety, high hopes and expectations that come with wedding planning, it can be difficult to remember that this is a time to be happy! I don’t want to take things too seriously and enjoy my wedding and 2008 with a joyful heart.
What are your bridal resolutions?
