The Wii Workout

January 2nd, 2008 @ 11:57 am by Mrs. Bubblegum

For Christmas SLASH Mr. Bubblegum’s birthday (born on Dec. 28… can you believe the nerve?), I decided to get Mr. Bubblegum a Wii (photo includes our newest kitten, Baby Boy Bubblegum, or B^3).

<SIDE STORY: Wiis are hard to get. :) I was all, “Yeah - I’m getting him a Wii,” but when I actually tried to GET him a Wii, I learned that they don’t expect the supply of Wiis in the U.S. to catch up to the Christmas demand until April. And I’m not really one of those camp-out-at-Target-at-3-am-type people. On Ebay, they were going for $400+ (retails at $250). Sooooo yeah. The Wednesday before Christmas, I was sulking about how I still hadn’t gotten him anything. My backup plan was to look on Ebay for Mets tickets in a city he’d want to visit and couple it with a trip there. On a WHIM, I decided to see how much the Wiis were going for on Ebay on this particular night. I GOT IT FOR $255!!!!! I even feel badly for the guy that sold it to me. He sent the receipt along with it, and with tax, he spent $263!!!!! I had it before Christmas, and everything works wonderfully. W00t!!>

As it turns out, the Wii Sports game that accompanies the Wii can make for a pretty good workout. And, having officially gained 4 pounds over the holiday season, I am in desperate need of a pretty good workout. In fact, www.wiihealthy.com is a website devoted specifically to working out with the Wii. In particular, they promote a Wii Sports Weight Loss Program, which is a 10-week program of playing 30-45 minutes of Wii Sports each day.

I, personally, am psyched. I LOVE Wii Boxing (annnnnd, not to toot my own horn, but… I’M AWESOME at it). For me, this is the perfect boost I needed to get back on track for wedding day goals after a rather fattening holiday.

And just for fun, meet my Mii:

What are you doing to get yourself back on track after the holidays??

I wish I could be laying the Wii! That looks like SO much fun :) Two of my goals for 2008 require greater physical discipline: learning to rock climb (the real deal outside!) and running a 5k, so I’ll be hitting the gym and possibly hiring a personal trainer!

PS. Your kitten is ultra cute!

My FH’s half-siblings got a Wii for Christmas, and we ended up hogging it Christmas Day. The next day my right shoulder was SO sore.

I’m just planning on getting back to what I was doing pre-holidays. Lots of water, exercise, cooking more. With the wedding quickly approaching, I need to concentrate on lifting weights. I think about a month before the wedding, I’ll cut out alcohol.

We’ve had a Wii for about a year now and it’s great fun! You should try Rayman Raving Rabbids, it’s hilarious and awesome! :)
Anyway, you should look into the Wii Fit system, I’m not sure when it’s going to be released, but keep a watch out for it because what I’ve seen on it is great! You can do yoga along with it and even some snowboarding games and so much more! you can check it out on amazon.com and sign up to be notified when they get it.

I’m going to eat like a normal person again. Hopefully not eating 3000 calories a day will be enough to shed the five pounds I gained!

You are lucky Miss Bubblegum. Last year for Mr. Lovebird’s birthday (Dec. 18) , we camped out TWICE for the Wii. The first time we waited at Toys R Us in Times Square for 7 hours to walk away with NOTHING because people kept cutting and the second time we deliriously went to wait at Nintendo World at 2 in the morning and walked away with one each.

Mr. Lovebird and I made resolutions to get fit for our wedding. I promised to actually use our elliptical and do sit-ups at least 5 times a week. We’ll see how long that lasts. My abs are still sore from yesterday. Maybe we should break out the Wii too!

I’ve been suggesting that we get a Wii since the release and Miss Dahlia has finally caved. I really want it to be something we can do together and this post makes great ammunition! Thanks!

I am committed to not paying anything above retail for the Wii, so I might need to become one of those Target campers.

Wow. I’m surprised the Wii is still hard to get? We got ours about a year ago. I was also so motivated by the “exercise” it provided but sad to admit that it has been quite neglected since the summer. But this post is a great motivation to dust it off and play/workout!
ITA with Alli that Rayman Raving Rabbids is sooooo fun! Fi also bought me the Happy Feet game for V-day which is really cute and fuin. And all our siblings and cousins are totally into Guitar Hero 3 (but not sure how much of a workout that one is).

We have really been wanting a Wii as well. However, we are waiting until this spring after the Christmas demand is over. My SIL has one, and we get to paly with it sometimes…so much fun (and I am not a video gamer at all)!

As far as getting back into shape, I will be regularly attending Hot Yoga classes again and not eating every Christmas cookie in site. :)

We just got one for Christmas from FMIL and we’re loving it! We’re using it for cardio and FI adds a couple of weights on while he’s boxing. It’s awesome!
